Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and mental health assessments (using DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnostic criteria) to identify psychiatric, behavioral, and functional needs and to formulate accurate diagnoses and differential diagnoses.
  • Develop clear, individualized, measurable treatment plans using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR as appropriate), with defined goals, objectives, and timeframes and document progress toward treatment goals.
  • Provide individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and/or families in an outpatient setting, adjusting intervention intensity and modality to clinical acuity and cultural needs.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and skills-based group therapy sessions (e.g., DBT skills, coping skills, parenting groups), including curriculum development, group management, and outcome tracking.
  • Perform suicide and violence risk assessments; create and implement safety plans; coordinate emergency interventions and crisis stabilization as required.
  • Manage a full caseload while ensuring clinical productivity targets, treatment fidelity, timely follow-up, and continuity of care for outpatient clients.

  • Conduct documentation and billing practices compliant with CPT coding, payer guidelines, and utilization review processes to ensure appropriate reimbursement.
  • Provide brief interventions and stepped-care approaches, offering short-term stabilization and facilitating transitions to higher levels of care when indicated (partial hospitalization, inpatient services).
  • Deliver telehealth/virtual therapy sessions in compliance with HIPAA and state telehealth regulations; support telehealth engagement and troubleshoot basic technology barriers.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative care planning to ensure client-centered interventions and coordinated service delivery.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical oversight to trainees, practicum students, and unlicensed clinicians under appropriate supervision frameworks.
  • Monitor and report on clinical quality metrics, patient satisfaction, no-show rates, and treatment outcomes; participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage insurance authorizations and prior authorization processes in coordination with administrative staff to minimize care interruptions.
  • Uphold professional licensure requirements, complete required continuing education, and stay current with best practices, evidence-based therapies, and relevant state regulations.
  • Provide outreach and engagement to referred clients, conduct warm hand-offs, and reduce barriers to initial evaluation and ongoing attendance.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in program development, including designing new outpatient services, specialty clinics (trauma, substance misuse, perinatal mental health), and quality-improvement projects that enhance outcomes and meet community needs.
  • Support clinic scheduling, waitlist management, and capacity planning to optimize access and reduce appointment gaps.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
