Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive, inspect and reconcile incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips; report and log shortages, overages, and damaged goods in the warehouse management system (WMS) or inventory software.
  • Safely unload freight from delivery vehicles using pallet jacks, manual forklifts, dollies and hand trucks; stage pallets and products for efficient backroom processing and shelf replenishment.
  • Stock sales floor and backroom following planograms, merchandising standards and store reset instructions; ensure product facings, signage and price labels are accurate and compliant.
  • Perform overnight shelf replenishment and rotation (first-in, first-out/FIFO) to maintain product freshness, reduce spoilage, and lower shrink for perishables and date-sensitive items.
  • Conduct nightly cycle counts, barcode scans and inventory audits to identify discrepancies, update inventory records, and support monthly and quarterly reconciliation processes.
  • Process returns, damaged merchandise, and salvage according to company procedures; document dispositions and coordinate with loss prevention or inventory control as required.
  • Prepare and execute planogram changes, promotional setups and seasonal displays during non-peak hours to minimize disruption to customers and daily operations.
  • Price markdowns and price verification: apply price labels, update shelf tags, correct pricing errors and verify promotional pricing before store opening.
  • Fulfill and stage online order pick-ups and ship-from-store orders, ensuring accuracy, proper packaging, and timely staging for morning pickup or courier collection.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized backroom and sales floor: break down boxes, dispose of shrink wrap, return empty pallets, and remove trip hazards in compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment (pit/stand-up forklift, order picker) where certified; complete pre-operation safety inspections and report equipment issues immediately.
  • Execute nightly store opening and closing checklists: prepare registers, verify signage, confirm merchandising readiness, and communicate required follow-ups to day-shift associates and management.
  • Coordinate with store leadership to prioritize high-turn items, inventory replenishment cadence, and replenishment allocation to optimize shelf availability and sales.
  • Monitor shrink risk areas, secure high-theft merchandise, and follow loss prevention protocols to deter theft and maintain inventory integrity.
  • Record and report operational incidents, safety hazards, and unusual inventory variances to the overnight supervisor or store manager with detailed documentation.
  • Assist in merchandise transfers between stores and prepare items for cross-docking or redistribution according to transfer requests and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate backroom organization by labeling bins, organizing by SKU/location, and updating bin locations in inventory systems to accelerate picking and replenishment.
  • Support inventory replenishment planning by flagging persistent out-of-stock items, slow movers for clearance, and high-demand SKUs for future ordering.
  • Collaborate with the morning/day team during shift handovers: provide clear shift reports, incomplete tasks, and items needing follow-up to ensure continuity of store operations.
  • Enforce store safety and sanitation protocols, including proper handling and storage of hazardous materials, PPE use, and adherence to cleaning schedules.
  • Meet productivity and quality metrics such as units stocked per hour, inventory accuracy percentage, planogram compliance, and on-time completion of overnight tasks.
  • Assist with ad-hoc operational projects such as new product launches, price changes, seasonal resets, and special events that require overnight implementation.
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service to early customers, vendors, and delivery personnel; answer basic product/location questions and escalate complex issues to management.
  • Support loss-prevention initiatives by maintaining camera visibility, securing high-value items, and participating in inventory shrink investigations when requested.

Secondary Functions

  • Support morning shift by preparing short notes/handovers summarizing overnight issues, pending tasks, and completed work to improve team communication.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Receiving and freight processing: pallet jack, hand truck, shrink wrap, carton handling, and staging.
  • Planogram execution and visual merchandising with strong attention to layout, spacing, and signage compliance.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
