Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct thorough and meticulous inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to identify evidence of pest infestations and contributing structural or environmental conditions.
  • Accurately identify a wide range of pests, including insects, rodents, termites, birds, and other vermin, to determine the most effective and appropriate treatment strategy.
  • Develop and present comprehensive pest management plans and proposals to clients, clearly explaining the nature of the problem, the recommended treatment, and preventive measures.
  • Apply pesticides, rodenticides, and other chemical treatments in a safe, precise, and effective manner, strictly adhering to product labels, safety data sheets (SDS), and all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, utilizing a combination of chemical and non-chemical methods such as trapping, exclusion, and sanitation recommendations.
  • Skillfully install, service, and maintain various pest control devices, including bait stations, insect light traps, and mechanical traps, ensuring they are functioning correctly and placed strategically.
  • Perform minor structural modifications and exclusion work, such as sealing cracks, gaps, and entry points, to prevent future pest ingress.
  • Create detailed and accurate service reports after each visit, documenting findings, services performed, materials used, and recommendations for the client.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor, effectively communicating with clients to answer questions, provide education on pest prevention, and build lasting customer relationships.
  • Manage a daily or weekly route, ensuring timely arrival at all scheduled appointments and optimizing travel time between locations.
  • Operate and maintain a company-provided service vehicle, ensuring it is clean, organized, and fully stocked with the necessary equipment and materials.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to offer additional services or solutions to clients to address their comprehensive pest management needs.
  • Stay current with the latest industry trends, new products, pest biology, and innovative treatment techniques through continuous training and professional development.
  • Respond to emergency pest control service calls with urgency and professionalism, quickly assessing and resolving critical pest issues.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to troubleshoot challenging infestations and share best practices.
  • Use handheld mobile devices or other technology to manage schedules, record service data, process payments, and communicate with the office.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with the company's safety policies and procedures to protect oneself, clients, and the environment.
  • Advise clients on sanitation, housekeeping, and landscaping practices that can reduce the likelihood of pest problems.
  • Handle, mix, and transport chemical products safely, ensuring proper storage and disposal according to environmental regulations.
  • Document and map pest activity, device placement, and conducive conditions on site plans for ongoing monitoring and analysis, especially in commercial facilities.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the cleanliness, serviceability, and professional appearance of the company vehicle and all issued equipment.
  • Manage and track inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment on the service vehicle to ensure adequate stock for all scheduled jobs.
  • Educate clients in detail on sanitation, moisture control, and structural corrections that will help prevent future infestations.
  • Prepare and submit all required paperwork, including service tickets, inspection reports, and time logs, in a timely and accurate manner.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • State-issued Pest Control Applicator License/Certification (or the ability to obtain it promptly).
  • In-depth knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles and practical application.
  • Strong pest identification skills (insects, rodents, common wildlife, etc.).
  • Proficient in the safe handling, mixing, and application of various pesticides, termiticides, and rodenticides.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a range of pest control equipment, including power sprayers, dusters, bait guns, and foggers.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing the pest control industry.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in various conditions, including climbing ladders, entering crawl spaces, and working in hot or cold environments.
  • Basic mathematical skills for accurately calculating mixture ratios, dilutions, and treatment area dimensions.
  • Competency in using smartphones, tablets, and proprietary software for scheduling, reporting, and communication.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
1-3 years of hands-on experience working as a licensed technician in the pest control industry.
