As the Photography Director, you are the principal architect of our brand's visual identity through the medium of photography. You will be a creative leader and a hands-on manager, responsible for defining, evolving, and executing the photographic style across all consumer touchpoints, including e-commerce, digital marketing, social media, and print campaigns. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, define, and uphold the overarching visual strategy and creative direction for all photography, ensuring a consistent and elevated brand aesthetic across e-commerce, marketing, social media, and editorial platforms.
  • Lead and inspire a team of in-house photographers, retouchers, and producers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creative growth and excellence.
  • Oversee the end-to-end production of all photo shoots, including concept development, mood boarding, pre-production planning, talent casting, location scouting, and on-set art direction.
  • Manage the photography budget with precision, handling everything from forecasting annual needs to negotiating contracts with freelancers, agencies, and studios to ensure projects are delivered within financial parameters.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Marketing, Product, Design, and Merchandising to translate business goals and campaign briefs into compelling photographic concepts.
  • Direct and guide on-set teams during high-stakes photo shoots, making critical creative decisions in real-time to ensure the final output aligns with the initial vision.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for digital asset management (DAM), including file naming conventions, metadata tagging, and archival processes to ensure a well-organized and accessible image library.
  • Curate and manage a global network of external creative talent, including freelance photographers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, and production companies, to scale our capabilities.
  • Drive the evolution of our brand's photographic language by staying ahead of industry trends, new techniques, and emerging technologies in photography and post-production.
  • Conduct regular reviews and critiques of photographic work, providing clear, constructive feedback to elevate the quality and consistency of the team's output.
  • Partner with the post-production team to establish and maintain retouching guidelines that align with brand standards for color, tone, and overall image integrity.
  • Analyze the performance of photographic assets across various channels, using data-driven insights to inform future creative strategies and optimize visual content for engagement.
  • Manage the procurement, maintenance, and upgrading of all photography and studio equipment, ensuring the team is equipped with the best tools for the job.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive brand photography guidelines and style guides to ensure consistency across all projects and with external partners.
  • Lead the creative conceptualization for major product launches and seasonal campaigns, translating marketing objectives into powerful, story-driven visual narratives.
  • Source and secure models, influencers, and brand ambassadors for photo shoots, managing casting sessions and talent negotiations in partnership with the marketing team.
  • Ensure all photography deliverables meet technical specifications for their intended platforms, from high-resolution print to web-optimized e-commerce imagery.
  • Act as the primary stakeholder and decision-maker for all photography-related matters within the organization, championing the importance of high-quality visual content.
  • Develop streamlined workflows and production schedules to manage a high volume of photographic requests efficiently, from simple product shots to complex lifestyle campaigns.
  • Mentor junior creative staff, providing guidance on career development, technical skills, and creative thinking to build a strong talent pipeline within the department.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage and meticulously track the photography department's budget, including forecasting expenses for equipment, freelancers, travel, and studio rentals.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, InDesign).
  • Mastery of Capture One and other tethered capture software.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of professional digital camera systems (e.g., Canon, Sony, Phase One) and lighting equipment (e.g., Profoto, Broncolor).
  • Extensive experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems and workflows.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, color management, and post-production/retouching techniques.
  • Proven ability in budget management, financial forecasting, and contract negotiation.
  • Expertise in all aspects of photo production, from pre-production to on-set execution.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience.
