Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of in-house and freelance photographers, providing daily creative direction, constructive feedback, and professional development opportunities to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of photo production, from pre-production planning and concept development to on-set execution and post-production retouching, ensuring a seamless and efficient workflow.
- Establish, maintain, and enforce brand photography guidelines and quality standards to ensure visual consistency and excellence across all platforms, including e-commerce, social media, marketing campaigns, and internal communications.
- Manage the daily operations of the photo studio, including scheduling shoots, coordinating talent and stylists, maintaining equipment, and organizing inventory and props.
- Develop and manage photography budgets, track expenses, and optimize resource allocation to maximize output and efficiency without compromising creative quality.
- Collaborate directly with Art Directors, Marketing Managers, and Merchandising teams to understand creative briefs and strategic objectives, translating them into actionable shot lists and compelling visual narratives.
- Direct on-set photography for a variety of project types, including product, lifestyle, and editorial shoots, ensuring that lighting, composition, and styling align with the creative vision.
- Implement and manage a robust Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, overseeing file naming conventions, metadata tagging, and archival processes to ensure all visual assets are organized and easily accessible.
- Continuously scout and evaluate new freelance photographers, stylists, and other creative talent to build a diverse and reliable network of external partners.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching for the photography team to support their growth, develop their skills, and align their goals with departmental objectives.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends, photographic techniques, and emerging technologies, introducing innovative ideas and processes to elevate the brand's visual identity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with camera systems, lighting equipment, and post-production software to minimize downtime and maintain a smooth production flow.
- Manage the procurement and maintenance of all photography and studio equipment, making informed recommendations for upgrades and new technology investments.
- Develop and refine workflows for post-production, including color correction, retouching, and image selection, collaborating with retouchers to ensure final assets meet brand standards.
- Partner with project managers to create and maintain detailed production calendars, ensuring all deadlines are met and stakeholders are kept informed of project progress.
- Ensure a safe and organized studio environment, adhering to all safety protocols and best practices for equipment handling and set management.
- Lead casting efforts for models and talent, ensuring selections are on-brand and align with the specific needs of each campaign or project.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production volume, asset turnaround time, and budget adherence to identify areas for process improvement.
- Act as the primary technical expert for all photographic matters, offering guidance and solutions to both creative and technical challenges.
- Direct and approve the final selection of images for all projects, ensuring the curated assets best represent the product and the brand's creative direction.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Expert-Level Photography: Mastery of digital photography principles, including advanced lighting techniques (studio and natural), composition, and color theory.
- Professional Equipment Proficiency: Extensive hands-on experience with professional DSLR/mirrorless camera systems (e.g., Canon, Sony, Nikon) and a variety of lenses.
- Studio Lighting Mastery: In-depth knowledge of studio strobe and continuous lighting systems (e.g., Profoto, Broncolor), modifiers, grip equipment, and their practical application.
