Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Conduct routine patrols and in-depth visual inspections of pipeline right-of-ways (ROWs), surface facilities, and stations to identify and address potential safety hazards, environmental risks, leaks, or unauthorized third-party activity.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide array of critical pipeline equipment, including mainline block valves, pumps, motors, compressors, and pressure relief devices, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Operate, monitor, and maintain pipeline systems using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and local HMI interfaces to manage flow rates, pressures, and temperatures within established operational parameters.
Respond promptly and effectively to system alarms and operational abnormalities, utilizing diagnostic skills to troubleshoot the root cause and execute corrective actions to restore normal operating conditions.
Execute pipeline integrity management program tasks, including preparing and launching cleaning and smart pigs (in-line inspection tools), and assisting with the analysis of collected data to assess pipeline condition.
Conduct leak detection surveys using advanced tools such as infrared cameras, laser methane detectors, and acoustic sensors, and respond immediately to any suspected product release in accordance with emergency procedures.
Perform and document hydrostatic pressure tests on newly constructed or repaired pipeline segments to verify their structural integrity and compliance with regulatory standards before placing them into service.
Execute hands-on repairs of pipeline coatings, perform minor mechanical repairs, and coordinate with specialized crews for complex tasks like welding, hot tapping, or stoppling.
Monitor and maintain cathodic protection systems, including taking pipe-to-soil readings and inspecting rectifier units, to prevent external corrosion and preserve the long-term integrity of the pipeline.
Manage all "One-Call" (811) locate requests for your assigned area by accurately locating and marking underground pipelines to prevent damage from excavation activities.
Isolate segments of the pipeline for maintenance or emergency repairs by performing lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, operating valves, and overseeing purging and inerting activities.
Collect, test, and document product quality samples (e.g., crude oil, NGLs, natural gas) to ensure they meet stringent transportation and custody transfer specifications.
Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all maintenance activities, compliance inspections, and repairs using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Ensure unwavering adherence to all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and government standards, including those set by DOT, PHMSA, and OSHA.
Act as a qualified first responder during emergency situations, participating in drills and deploying containment and control measures in the event of an actual incident.
Interpret pipeline alignment sheets, station piping diagrams (P&IDs), and other technical drawings to effectively locate assets and understand system configurations.
Calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on measurement and instrumentation equipment to ensure the accuracy of custody transfer and operational data.
Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, and all-terrain vehicles as required for maintenance and access, provided proper certification is held.
Interface directly with landowners, public officials, and emergency responders in a professional manner to address concerns and coordinate activities along the pipeline right-of-way.
Perform general upkeep and maintenance of pipeline stations and grounds, including vegetation management, housekeeping, and ensuring site security.

Secondary Functions

Support engineering and project teams by providing operational input and field support during pipeline modification or expansion projects.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and operational best practices.
Collaborate with control room operators to plan and schedule maintenance activities in a way that minimizes disruption to pipeline throughput.
Participate actively in daily safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and formal incident investigation processes.
