Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Monitor, track, and analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and government activities at local, state, federal, and international levels to determine their potential impact on the organization.
  • Develop and maintain a sophisticated understanding of the political landscape, including key players, institutional dynamics, and emerging trends to inform organizational strategy.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality written materials, including policy briefs, position papers, talking points, legislative summaries, and internal memos for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and manage strong, collaborative relationships with government officials, legislative staff, industry associations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Formulate and execute comprehensive government relations and advocacy strategies to shape policy outcomes in alignment with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Represent the organization in meetings with policymakers, at legislative hearings, industry conferences, and other public forums to effectively communicate our positions and priorities.
  • Provide strategic counsel and expert political advice to senior executives and internal teams on a wide range of complex and sensitive public policy issues.
  • Conduct in-depth research and geopolitical risk analysis on international political developments, elections, and policy shifts that could affect the organization's global operations.
  • Organize and lead advocacy campaigns, including grassroots mobilization, coalition building, and direct lobbying efforts to advance specific legislative or regulatory objectives.
  • Manage the organization's compliance with all relevant lobbying disclosure laws, ethics regulations, and political contribution rules to ensure full legal and ethical adherence.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, communications, and business units to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to public affairs and policy engagement.
  • Identify and assess political and reputational risks and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies to protect the organization's brand and standing.
  • Prepare leadership for high-stakes engagements by developing detailed briefing books, anticipating questions, and conducting preparatory sessions.
  • Oversee the work of external government affairs consultants and lobbyists, ensuring their activities are aligned with strategic priorities and deliver measurable results.
  • Develop and manage the public affairs budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to achieve maximum impact on key policy priorities.
  • Lead the internal policy development process, working with subject matter experts across the organization to formulate official positions on emerging issues.
