Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and execute comprehensive political and legislative strategies at the local, state, and/or federal levels to advance the organization's mission and policy objectives.
- Supervise, mentor, and manage a team of political staff, organizers, and volunteers, setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Build and maintain strong, effective relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, government agencies, and key policymakers to advocate for organizational priorities.
- Oversee the organization's entire electoral or issue-based campaign lifecycle, from initial planning and budgeting to get-out-the-vote (GOTV) operations and post-election analysis.
- Serve as a primary representative and spokesperson for the organization in political coalitions, at public hearings, and with key external stakeholders and partner organizations.
- Direct and monitor all lobbying activities, ensuring strict compliance with all relevant lobbying disclosure laws, ethics regulations, and campaign finance rules.
- Analyze legislation, regulatory proposals, and political trends to identify potential opportunities and threats, providing timely, strategic counsel to senior leadership.
- Design and implement sophisticated grassroots and grasstops advocacy campaigns to mobilize supporters, influence public opinion, and impact policy decisions.
- Oversee the development of all political communications, including talking points, press releases, policy briefs, and digital advocacy content, ensuring message consistency and effectiveness.
- Manage the political program budget, allocating resources effectively to maximize impact and ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparent reporting.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of political programs, field operations, and advocacy initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed based on data.
