Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute a daily or weekly route to service a portfolio of residential and commercial swimming pools and spas, ensuring timely and consistent care.
Conduct comprehensive water quality tests for key chemical levels, including chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid.
Accurately interpret test results and apply precise amounts of chemicals to balance water chemistry, ensuring it is safe, comfortable, and clear.
Perform thorough cleaning of pools and spas, which includes skimming surface debris, brushing walls and tiles, and vacuuming the pool floor.
Inspect, empty, and clean skimmer baskets and pump strainer baskets to ensure proper water flow and filtration.
Maintain and clean pool filtration systems, including backwashing sand filters, cleaning cartridge filters, and recharging D.E. filters.
Conduct routine inspections of all pool equipment, including pumps, motors, filters, heaters, and automated control systems, to identify any signs of wear or malfunction.
Troubleshoot and diagnose common pool issues such as cloudy water, algae blooms, or unusual equipment noises, and implement corrective actions.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to extend its lifespan and prevent costly breakdowns.
Respond to urgent or emergency service calls from clients regarding equipment failures or critical water quality issues.
Maintain a clean, organized, and fully-stocked service vehicle with the necessary chemicals, tools, and replacement parts.

Secondary Functions

Professionally and courteously communicate with clients, providing updates on services performed, pool condition, and any recommendations.
Educate clients on the basics of their pool's operation, routine maintenance they can perform, and best safety practices.
Maintain meticulous, accurate digital or paper logs of all services performed, chemical readings, and chemicals added at each client location.
Identify and recommend equipment upgrades, repairs, or additional services that would benefit the client and enhance their pool experience.

Manage on-vehicle inventory, track chemical and part usage, and report restocking needs to a supervisor.

Assist with seasonal pool openings and closings, including removing/installing covers, winterizing plumbing lines, and preparing equipment.
Perform minor to moderate repairs on pool equipment, which may involve basic plumbing, component replacement, and seal changes.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification: Or the ability to obtain certification shortly after hire; this is often a core requirement.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
1-3 years of direct, hands-on experience in pool maintenance, service, or a closely related field like landscaping or general maintenance.

3+ years of professional experience as a Pool Technician, including demonstrated proficiency in equipment diagnostics, repair, and installation. Current CPO certification is highly preferred.
