Primary Functions

  • Direct and supervise a diverse team of mail carriers, clerks, and mail handlers, providing clear instructions, setting performance expectations, and monitoring daily activities to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Plan and schedule daily work assignments, routes, and staffing levels to optimize resource allocation and ensure timely mail processing and delivery, adjusting for volume fluctuations and employee absences.
  • Enforce strict adherence to all postal regulations, safety protocols, and security procedures to maintain a safe working environment and protect the integrity of the mail.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback and coaching, and manage employee development to foster a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Address and resolve employee-related issues, including disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflicts, in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and company policies.
  • Monitor and manage key operational metrics, such as delivery times, processing throughput, and overtime hours, analyzing data to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Oversee the dispatch of mail carriers, ensuring they have the necessary equipment, information, and mail volume for their assigned routes.
  • Manage and resolve customer service inquiries and complaints escalated from clerks or carriers, taking decisive action to ensure customer satisfaction and service recovery.
  • Coordinate with other supervisors and managers to ensure a seamless flow of mail between different operational units, such as sorting, distribution, and transportation.
  • Conduct daily team briefings to communicate operational targets, safety reminders, and relevant organizational updates to the workforce.
  • Manage facility resources, including vehicles, sorting equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are properly maintained, functional, and available.
  • Prepare and submit detailed operational, administrative, and employee-related reports, including timekeeping records, attendance logs, and incident reports.
  • Act as the on-site leader during a specific tour or shift, making critical decisions to handle unexpected disruptions, such as vehicle breakdowns, weather delays, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Implement new operational procedures, technologies, and corporate initiatives at the team level, ensuring proper training and adoption.
