Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production associates, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and teamwork through effective coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Production Schedule Execution: Oversee and manage the daily production schedule to ensure that output targets, product specifications, and critical delivery deadlines are consistently achieved or surpassed.
  • Safety & Compliance Leadership: Champion and rigorously enforce all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations on the production floor, conducting regular safety audits and leading incident investigations to cultivate and maintain a zero-harm work environment.
  • Continuous Improvement Implementation: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to systematically optimize processes, reduce scrap and waste, and enhance overall operational productivity.
  • Performance Monitoring & Analysis: Monitor, track, and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, and labor efficiency, using the data to identify performance trends and implement timely corrective actions.
  • Employee Performance Management: Actively manage employee performance by providing regular, constructive feedback, conducting formal performance reviews, and administering coaching or disciplinary actions in line with company policy and legal standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with parallel departments, including Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Engineering, to proactively resolve production bottlenecks and ensure seamless, integrated operations.
  • Quality Assurance & Control: Guarantee that all products manufactured meet or exceed stringent quality control standards by implementing and diligently monitoring in-process quality checks and procedures.
  • Resource Management & Allocation: Strategically manage the allocation of resources, including staffing assignments, equipment utilization, and materials, to align with dynamic production plans and budgetary constraints.
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Management: Develop, document, and maintain clear and concise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all production activities, ensuring they are kept current and are consistently followed by all team members.
  • Effective Shift Handovers: Facilitate comprehensive and effective shift handovers by clearly communicating critical information regarding production status, safety concerns, quality issues, and maintenance needs to the incoming supervisor and team.
  • Root Cause Problem Solving: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for production defects, significant equipment downtime, or safety incidents, and implement robust, sustainable countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
  • Workforce Administration: Manage employee timekeeping, attendance records, and vacation scheduling through the designated HRIS/timekeeping system to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained across all shifts.
  • Daily Team Communication: Lead engaging pre-shift meetings to communicate daily production goals, specific safety topics, quality alerts, and other pertinent company updates to motivate and align the production team.
  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Actively participate in the hiring and onboarding process for new production team members, providing comprehensive training on job duties, safety procedures, and company culture.
  • Workplace Organization (5S): Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment by championing and sustaining 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) on the production floor.
  • Operational Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports on production volume, operational efficiency, downtime, and team performance to the Production Manager and other plant leadership.
  • Conflict Resolution: Serve as the first point of contact for resolving employee conflicts and grievances in a fair and professional manner, escalating complex issues to Human Resources or senior management when appropriate.
  • Material & Inventory Control: Evaluate and manage the consumption of raw materials and operational supplies to minimize waste, improve yield, and maintain control over inventory levels on the floor.
  • Equipment Uptime & Maintenance Coordination: Ensure all production machinery is operating within its specified parameters and coordinate proactively with the maintenance department to schedule preventative maintenance and address emergency repairs swiftly.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide production data and context for ad-hoc reports requested by management or support functions.
  • Contribute to the site's annual operating plan and continuous improvement strategy.
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and trial runs.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Lean Manufacturing Principles: Demonstrated application of tools like 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Waste Reduction.
  • ERP/MRP Systems: Proficiency with enterprise resource planning software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Plex) for production scheduling and inventory management.
  • OSHA Regulations: In-depth knowledge of occupational safety standards relevant to a manufacturing environment.
  • Production Scheduling: Ability to read, interpret, and execute complex production schedules to meet customer demand.
  • Quality Control (QC) Methodologies: Understanding of statistical process control (SPC), quality inspection standards, and non-conformance protocols.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate's Degree in a related field is often expected.
