Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, manage, and execute complex quantitative and qualitative analyses on diverse public health datasets, including vital statistics, disease surveillance data, and population health surveys.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance public health surveillance systems to proactively monitor disease trends, identify emerging health threats, and detect potential outbreaks in real-time.
  • Author and prepare comprehensive reports, scientific manuscripts, data visualizations, and dynamic dashboards to communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide robust epidemiological and statistical support for the investigation of disease outbreaks and other urgent public health incidents, including case-finding and contact tracing analysis.
  • Conduct rigorous data management, including data cleaning, manipulation, linkage, and validation, to ensure the utmost accuracy, reliability, and integrity of public health information.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to perform spatial analysis, creating maps that visualize disease clusters, environmental risk factors, and disparities in health outcomes.
  • Lead or support the systematic evaluation of public health programs and interventions to measure their impact, effectiveness, and return on investment, providing data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Translate complex statistical findings into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for public health leaders, community partners, and policymakers to inform decision-making.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on public health data sources, metrics, and analytical methodologies, providing technical assistance and consultation to internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate closely with epidemiologists, program managers, and IT specialists to define data needs, develop analytical plans, and ensure project objectives are met.
  • Ensure all activities involving protected health information (PHI) adhere strictly to data privacy and security protocols, such as HIPAA, and institutional review board (IRB) requirements.
  • Develop and validate data collection instruments, such as surveys and case report forms, to ensure they effectively capture necessary information for analysis.
  • Write and execute complex queries using SQL or similar languages to extract, merge, and transform data from large relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Apply advanced statistical models, such as regression analysis and time-series analysis, to identify risk factors, predict health trends, and forecast future public health needs.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations at professional conferences, community meetings, and internal briefings to disseminate key findings and promote evidence-based practices.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and funding applications by providing data-driven rationale, developing evaluation frameworks, and articulating the potential impact of proposed projects.
