Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Spearhead the sourcing and procurement of technically complex components, custom-fabricated parts, and raw materials in alignment with engineering specifications and new product introduction (NPI) timelines.
Act as the primary technical liaison between internal engineering teams and external suppliers to clarify design requirements, resolve technical queries, and ensure manufacturability (DFM).
Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for key commodities, conducting in-depth market analysis to identify potential suppliers, mitigate risks, and capitalize on emerging technologies.
Lead the end-to-end supplier qualification process, including initial technical assessments, on-site audits, and capability evaluations to build a robust and reliable approved supplier list (ASL).
Drive comprehensive cost-down initiatives by performing detailed should-cost analysis, leading value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) workshops, and identifying alternative materials or manufacturing processes.
Conduct and lead complex commercial negotiations with suppliers on pricing, lead times, payment terms, and long-term agreements (LTAs) to secure the most favorable terms for the organization.
Proactively manage supplier relationships and performance, establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality, delivery, and cost, and conducting regular business reviews.
Collaborate closely with the quality assurance team to resolve supplier quality issues, manage non-conforming material dispositions, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
Interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications (e.g., GD&T) to effectively communicate requirements and ensure supplier compliance.
Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Request for Information (RFI) processes for all technical procurement needs, performing detailed quote analysis and making sourcing recommendations.
Monitor and report on commodity market trends, price fluctuations, and geopolitical factors to develop proactive strategies that mitigate supply chain disruptions and cost volatility.
Champion early supplier involvement in the design process to leverage supplier expertise, optimize for cost and manufacturability, and accelerate time-to-market.
Develop and maintain risk mitigation plans for critical single/sole-source components, including the identification and qualification of secondary suppliers.
Ensure all procurement activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and relevant industry regulations (e.g., ISO, IATF, RoHS, REACH).
Manage the complete lifecycle of purchase orders for engineered components, from requisition to final payment, ensuring data accuracy within the ERP system.
Lead cross-functional teams (including Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing) to execute resourcing projects aimed at improving quality, reducing costs, or enhancing supply chain resiliency.
Evaluate and negotiate tooling costs and amortization schedules with suppliers for new product launches, ensuring optimal return on investment.
Systematically track and report on cost savings, cost avoidance, and supplier performance metrics to senior management, providing clear insights and strategic recommendations.
Facilitate the resolution of logistical and delivery-related issues with suppliers to prevent production line-down situations and ensure continuity of supply.
Partner with R&D on advanced technology scouting to identify and build relationships with suppliers at the forefront of innovation in our industry.

Secondary Functions

Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to supplier spend, performance, and market intelligence.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement processes, tools, and the organization's overall data-driven procurement strategy.
Collaborate with business units and project managers to translate complex project needs and data requirements into actionable engineering and procurement plans.
Participate in sprint planning, agile ceremonies, and cross-functional project meetings to ensure procurement activities are synchronized with overall project goals.
Generate and present periodic reports on supplier performance, cost savings projects, and market trends to departmental and executive leadership.
