Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute comprehensive dimensional and visual inspections on incoming raw materials, in-process sub-assemblies, and final products to verify conformance to specifications.
- Utilize a wide range of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and optical comparators, to obtain accurate measurement data.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and work instructions to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Meticulously document inspection and test results by completing detailed reports, logs, and checklists, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
- Identify, tag, and segregate non-conforming products or materials to prevent their unintended use or shipment, following established quarantine procedures.
- Initiate and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), providing clear and objective evidence of the discrepancy for review by the Material Review Board (MRB).
- Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) to validate that new or revised production processes are capable of consistently producing parts that meet all requirements.
- Perform routine in-process audits on the production floor to ensure manufacturing processes are adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality plans.
- Collaborate directly with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to communicate quality issues and assist in troubleshooting to find effective resolutions.
- Maintain the operational readiness and calibration status of all inspection tools and equipment, coordinating with external services when necessary.
- Participate actively in root cause analysis (RCA) investigations to help identify the source of quality defects and contribute to the development of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Review and verify supplier documentation, such as Certificates of Conformance (CoC), material certifications, and test reports, to ensure compliance of incoming goods.
- Support internal and external quality system audits (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) by retrieving records, demonstrating inspection processes, and speaking to quality procedures.
- Manage and maintain quality assurance records and documentation in a systematic and organized manner, adhering to company and regulatory retention policies.
- Apply basic Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to monitor process stability and capability, and report on trends or out-of-control conditions.
- Test products for specific functional, performance, and durability characteristics according to established test protocols and engineering requirements.
- Provide clear, concise, and timely feedback to the Quality and Production management teams regarding quality trends, significant issues, and process improvement opportunities.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, such as 5S, Kaizen events, and Lean Manufacturing principles, within the quality department and on the shop floor.
- Verify that final packaging, labeling, and shipping documentation for finished products meet all customer and company specifications prior to release.
- Operate and potentially program advanced inspection equipment, such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) or vision systems, to perform complex measurements.
