Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and rigorously maintain the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with international standards like ISO 9001 or industry-specific regulations (e.g., IATF 16949, AS9100, 21 CFR Part 820).
  • Plan, execute, and document internal and external audits to verify compliance with quality standards, identifying areas of non-conformance and opportunities for process refinement.
  • Lead and facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for product defects, process failures, and customer complaints using methodologies like 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, or Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Manage the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) program, from initiation and investigation through to implementation and verification of effectiveness, ensuring timely closure of all actions.
  • Analyze quality data and key performance indicators (KPIs), such as defect rates, first pass yield, and cost of poor quality, to identify trends and report findings to management.
  • Create, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality control documentation to ensure they are clear, current, and effectively implemented.
  • Oversee the calibration and maintenance program for all measurement and test equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability in the quality control process.
  • Coordinate and participate in the inspection and testing of raw materials, in-process components, and finished goods to confirm they meet engineering specifications and quality benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams during design and launch phases to establish quality requirements and build quality into the product from the start (APQP).
  • Manage supplier quality performance, including conducting supplier audits, evaluating supplier capabilities, and addressing any non-conforming materials received.
  • Develop and deliver quality-related training programs for employees across various departments to foster a strong, organization-wide culture of quality awareness and accountability.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer and regulatory agency audits, preparing necessary documentation and coordinating responses to inquiries and findings.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma principles to enhance process efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall product quality.
  • Administer the document control system, ensuring that all quality-related documents are properly created, approved, distributed, and archived.
  • Prepare and present detailed quality reports and summaries for management reviews, highlighting performance trends, significant issues, and the status of improvement projects.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by participating in design reviews and developing comprehensive quality and inspection plans for new products.
  • Investigate and process customer returns (RMA), analyzing returned products to determine failure modes and provide feedback to relevant departments.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to help determine the disposition of non-conforming materials and products.
  • Assist the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team by participating in safety audits and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Mentor junior quality personnel, such as inspectors and technicians, providing guidance on inspection techniques and quality principles.
  • Maintain and analyze supplier performance scorecards to drive improvements in the supply chain and support procurement decisions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Quality Management Systems (QMS): Deep understanding and practical experience with QMS frameworks, particularly ISO 9001, and familiarity with industry-specific standards.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Proficiency in structured problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis to identify the true source of issues.
  • CAPA Management: Expertise in managing the full lifecycle of Corrective and Preventive Actions, from documentation and investigation to verification of effectiveness.
  • Auditing: Certified or experienced in performing internal and external quality audits against established standards and regulations.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC): Ability to use statistical methods and tools to monitor, control, and improve processes.
  • Metrology & GD&T: Strong knowledge of measurement tools, calibration processes, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Lean Six Sigma: Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies, including principles like Kaizen, 5S, and DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-7 years of direct experience in a quality assurance, quality control, or manufacturing environment.

Preferred: Experience in a highly regulated industry such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, or pharmaceuticals is highly advantageous. Certifications like ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or a Six Sigma Green/Black Belt are strongly preferred.
