Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, design, and execute rigorous experiments and test plans to evaluate new product ideas, materials, or cutting-edge technologies.

  • Stay at the forefront of the industry by continuously researching and evaluating emerging technologies, academic publications, and competitor intellectual property.
  • Identify and champion opportunities for intellectual property creation, actively participating in the patent disclosure and application process.
  • Lead and contribute to technical design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to ensure robust and reliable designs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex, ambiguous technical challenges that arise during the research, development, and testing phases.
  • Develop and validate novel test methodologies and custom-built apparatus when standard testing procedures are insufficient for new technologies.
  • Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies on new product concepts, assessing technical risks, resource requirements, and potential for success.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for assigned R&D initiatives, providing regular status updates to stakeholders.
  • Select, qualify, and manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and research partners to source critical components and new technologies.
  • Ensure that all research activities and resulting designs adhere to relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
  • Present complex technical findings and project updates in a clear and compelling manner to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and non-technical teams.
  • Create and maintain meticulous 3D models, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings using CAD software for parts and systems.
  • Characterize and evaluate new materials and components to determine their suitability for specific applications and performance criteria.
  • Design and implement automated data acquisition systems to improve the efficiency and accuracy of laboratory testing and data collection.
  • Provide expert technical support and guidance to other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.

  • CAD/CAE Software: Proficiency in solid modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360) and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Data Analysis & Statistics: Strong skills in analyzing large datasets, statistical process control (SPC), and Design of Experiments (DoE) using tools like Python (Pandas, NumPy), R, JMP, or Minitab.
  • Programming/Scripting: Competency in languages like Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for test automation, data processing, and modeling.
