Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and oversee the entire research and development lifecycle, from conceptualization and feasibility studies to design, development, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term technology roadmap that aligns with strategic business goals and market opportunities.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Manage the R&D department's budget, including resource allocation, project forecasting, and expense tracking to ensure projects are delivered on time and within financial scope.
  • Drive the intellectual property strategy, including identifying patentable inventions, managing the patent application process, and protecting company innovations.
  • Champion a culture of innovation by encouraging creative thinking, organizing ideation sessions, and staying abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive landscapes.
  • Establish and enforce robust R&D processes, methodologies, and quality standards to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of new products.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the R&D team and other departments, including Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Manufacturing, to ensure seamless product integration.
  • Prepare and present detailed project status updates, technical reports, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the design and execution of experiments, simulations, and validation tests to rigorously evaluate product performance and feasibility.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with external research partners, universities, and technology vendors to augment internal capabilities.
  • Ensure all R&D activities and resulting products comply with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO, FDA).
  • Lead risk assessment and mitigation activities for all research and development projects, proactively identifying potential technical and logistical hurdles.
  • Guide the team in advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis for complex technical challenges encountered during the development process.
  • Manage resource planning and talent acquisition for the R&D department, including hiring, onboarding, and professional development of team members.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the R&D team to measure efficiency, innovation output, and project success.
  • Facilitate the creation of comprehensive product documentation, including technical specifications, design documents, and testing protocols.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D function, optimizing workflows, tools, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and lab infrastructure to support ongoing research efforts.
  • Conduct thorough technology scouting and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities and maintain a competitive edge in the market.

Education & Experience

Educational Background
