Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and produce compelling, original content, including show topics, segments, and features that align with the station's brand and target demographic.
  • Manage all aspects of daily live show production, including timing, content flow, and seamless coordination with on-air talent and technical staff.
  • Identify, research, book, and schedule high-profile guests, conducting thorough pre-interviews to prepare hosts with detailed research and potential questions.
  • Edit audio segments, interviews, sound bites, and promotional materials using digital audio workstations like Adobe Audition or Pro Tools to a high professional standard.
  • Generate original ideas for shows, identify suitable ideas from others, and carry out in-depth research to ensure content is appealing, relevant, and accurate.
  • Operate the control board during live or pre-recorded broadcasts, ensuring a smooth and professional on-air product free of errors.
  • Screen listener calls and select the most engaging callers to go on-air, fostering an interactive and dynamic listener experience.
  • Collaborate closely with the Program Director and on-air hosts to plan and execute the overall creative vision and strategic direction of the show.
  • Write compelling scripts, on-air copy, promos, and imaging to effectively promote the show and other key station initiatives.
  • Manage the show's social media presence across various platforms, creating and posting engaging content to build an online community and drive listenership.
  • Archive and meticulously organize all show content, including audio files, guest information, and research materials, for future use and digital distribution.
  • Work in conjunction with the sales and promotions departments to conceptualize and execute revenue-generating features and sponsored content seamlessly.
  • Stay current with local and national news, pop culture, entertainment, and industry trends relevant to the show's format and audience.
  • Monitor competing stations and other media platforms to identify emerging trends, content opportunities, and competitive advantages.
  • Troubleshoot technical and logistical issues that arise during a live broadcast, demonstrating quick thinking and effective problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Prepare and maintain a daily show log and rundown, detailing all segments, commercial breaks, and precise timings for the on-air team.
  • Participate actively in regular brainstorming and content planning meetings with the production team and on-air talent to foster creativity and collaboration.
  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback to on-air talent to improve performance, delivery, and on-air chemistry.
  • Ensure all broadcast content strictly complies with FCC regulations, copyright laws, and internal station policies.
  • Develop and produce podcast versions of broadcast content, as well as original digital-only audio content, to expand the show's reach.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to audience listenership and content performance.
  • Contribute to the organization's broader content strategy and digital roadmap.
  • Coordinate logistics for remote broadcasts and live events, managing technical setup and on-site production needs.
