Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Unload merchandise from incoming freight trucks, trailers, and containers, utilizing proper material handling equipment like pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform detailed verification of incoming shipments by comparing purchase orders and packing lists with the physical merchandise received to ensure accuracy in quantity, item description, and quality.
- Meticulously inspect all delivered goods for damage, defects, or discrepancies, and meticulously document any issues, reporting them to the Receiving Manager or Inventory Control for resolution.
- Utilize handheld scanners and other inventory management system technologies to accurately receive products into the store's inventory system, ensuring real-time data integrity.
- Sort and segregate received merchandise by department, SKU, and other classifications, preparing it for efficient stocking and placement on the sales floor or in backstock locations.
- Apply price tags, security sensors, and other required labeling to merchandise according to company standards and guidelines before it is moved to the sales floor.
- Safely and systematically move processed merchandise from the receiving area to designated backstock locations or directly to the sales floor for immediate replenishment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the receiving dock, backroom, and all storage areas, adhering to all company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Assemble and set up merchandise, fixtures, and displays as required, ensuring they are ready for customer presentation on the sales floor.
- Process and prepare outbound shipments, including customer orders, vendor returns, and inter-store transfers, ensuring all items are correctly packed, labeled, and documented.
- Collaborate closely with the sales floor and merchandising teams to communicate the arrival of new products and prioritize the processing of high-demand or promotional items.
- Participate in regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits to help maintain the accuracy of the store's on-hand inventory records.
- Operate and maintain all warehouse equipment, including balers, compactors, and forklifts (if certified), performing daily safety checks and reporting any maintenance needs.
- Manage the disposition of packing materials, such as cardboard and plastics, by sorting them for recycling and using the appropriate compacting equipment.
- Execute the return-to-vendor (RTV) process by accurately picking, packing, and documenting merchandise designated for return to suppliers.
- Adhere to all loss prevention and security procedures to minimize shrinkage and protect company assets within the receiving and backstock areas.
- Provide support to the sales floor team by assisting with stock checks, retrieving items from backstock, and helping with general store upkeep during peak times.
- Communicate effectively with freight carriers and delivery drivers to coordinate and schedule incoming and outgoing shipments efficiently.
- Follow all established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for receiving, processing, and stocking to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
- Handle special orders and firearms receiving processes with strict adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations (ATF compliance), including meticulous record-keeping.
- Monitor receiving dock activity to ensure the security of the building and the merchandise, preventing unauthorized access or removal of property.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with store resets and floor plan changes by moving fixtures and merchandise.
- Provide backup support for other operational roles, such as facilities maintenance or cart retrieval, as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on new procedures, products, and safety guidelines.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Inventory Management Systems (IMS): Proficiency in using handheld scanners and computer-based inventory software to track products from receipt to final placement.
- Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Operation: Certified or trainable ability to safely operate manual and powered pallet jacks, hand trucks, and potentially forklifts.
