Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, organize, and actively lead a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreational activities, including sports, games, arts and crafts, music, and drama for diverse age groups.
  • Directly supervise program participants, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment while enforcing facility rules and safety regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain recreational facilities and spaces before and after activities, including setting up equipment, arranging furniture, and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Greet participants and visitors warmly, provide detailed information about programs and schedules, and handle on-site registration and fee collection.
  • Adapt program activities on the fly to accommodate varying group sizes, skill levels, participant interests, and unexpected changes like weather.
  • Monitor the use of recreational equipment and supplies, report any damage or need for replacement, and maintain an organized inventory system.
  • Provide first aid and respond to minor injuries or emergencies according to established protocols, completing necessary incident reports accurately and promptly.
  • Assist in the development of new and engaging program ideas, contributing to the monthly or seasonal activity calendar.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants, parents, and community members, actively encouraging participation and gathering feedback for program improvement.
  • Guide and instruct participants on the rules of various games and the proper use of equipment to ensure fairness and prevent injuries.
  • Implement behavior management techniques to resolve conflicts between participants, promoting a respectful and cooperative atmosphere.
  • Assist individuals with special needs to ensure they can participate fully in activities, making modifications as necessary and appropriate.
  • Operate standard office equipment to perform clerical duties such as answering phones, making copies, and distributing promotional materials for upcoming events.
  • Chaperone and supervise participants during special events and field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being while off-site.

Secondary Functions

  • Document program attendance, track participation statistics, and prepare simple summary reports for supervisors.
  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of recreational programs by distributing flyers, updating social media, or contributing to newsletters.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops to stay current on policies and enhance job-related skills.
  • Perform routine safety checks of play areas, equipment, and facilities, immediately reporting any hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Support senior staff in larger community-wide events, taking on specific roles such as managing a station, directing volunteers, or assisting with crowd control.
  • Provide custodial and light maintenance duties as needed to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment for all patrons.
  • Collaborate with other recreation staff and volunteers to ensure seamless program delivery and a cohesive team approach.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years of experience in a related field.
