Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute a comprehensive and balanced calendar of recreational programs, special events, classes, and activities for diverse demographic groups, including youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments of the community through surveys, public forums, and direct engagement to identify recreational interests and service gaps, ensuring programs remain relevant and impactful.

  • Create and implement dynamic marketing and promotional strategies to drive program awareness and boost participation, utilizing social media, digital newsletters, press releases, and print collateral.
  • Manage the logistical scheduling and reservation of recreational facilities, such as parks, sports fields, community centers, and pools, ensuring optimal utilization and preventing conflicts.
  • Proactively ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants and staff by enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular facility and equipment inspections, and implementing risk management plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the public, providing exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries, processing registrations, resolving complaints, and gathering feedback with professionalism and empathy.
  • Establish and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with community stakeholders, including local schools, businesses, service clubs, and other government agencies to enhance program offerings and foster community partnerships.
  • Systematically evaluate the effectiveness and success of programs and events through data collection on attendance, participant satisfaction, and financial performance, using the findings to guide future planning.
  • Oversee the procurement, inventory management, and routine maintenance of all necessary recreational equipment, materials, and supplies to support program activities.
  • Ensure all programs and facilities are operated in full compliance with organizational policies, local ordinances, and state/federal regulations, including ADA accessibility standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and documentation related to program statistics, incidents, budgetary status, and long-range planning for senior management and governing bodies.
  • Personally lead or instruct certain recreational classes, workshops, or activities as needed, demonstrating a hands-on approach and passion for recreation.
  • Respond effectively to on-site incidents and emergencies, which may include administering First Aid and CPR, and complete all required follow-up documentation.
  • Coordinate the details of facility rentals for private functions, serving as the liaison for clients from initial inquiry through the successful completion of their event.
  • Research industry trends, innovative program ideas, and best practices in the field of parks and recreation to ensure the organization's offerings remain fresh, modern, and engaging.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

A Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred. Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification is a significant asset.
