Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive initial assessments, including musculoskeletal, biomechanical, and functional capacity evaluations (FCEs), to establish a baseline and identify client needs.
  • Develop, implement, and meticulously monitor individualized, evidence-based active rehabilitation and exercise therapy programs for a diverse caseload, including clients with musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, and post-surgical conditions.
  • Provide clear and concise education to clients and their families regarding their condition, injury mechanisms, pain management strategies, and principles of active recovery.
  • Instruct, demonstrate, and correct client performance of therapeutic exercises and activities, ensuring proper form, technique, and safety to maximize outcomes.
  • Perform detailed postural and movement-based analyses to identify dysfunctions and contributing factors to a client's condition.
  • Manage a complex caseload of clients funded through various sources, including MVA (motor vehicle accident), WSIB/WCB, long-term disability (LTD), and private payers.
  • Maintain precise, timely, and confidential clinical documentation, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Regularly reassess client progress towards their functional goals, modifying treatment plans and exercise progressions as necessary to ensure continued improvement.
  • Prepare detailed and objective progress reports, discharge reports, and other required documentation for third-party funders, lawyers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Design and supervise work conditioning and work hardening programs aimed at safely returning injured workers to their pre-injury job demands.
  • Administer standardized physical demands analyses (PDAs) and ergonomic assessments in both clinical and workplace settings to identify risks and recommend modifications.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally within an interdisciplinary team, including Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Occupational Therapists, and Physicians, to ensure integrated and collaborative patient care.
  • Utilize a variety of therapeutic equipment and modalities, such as resistance bands, free weights, cable machines, and balance training tools, to facilitate rehabilitation.

Secondary Functions

  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and motivating clinic environment that encourages client engagement and adherence to their programs.
  • Participate actively in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in kinesiology and rehabilitation.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach programs, educational workshops, or corporate wellness initiatives to promote health and injury prevention.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the clinical gym and treatment areas, including regular equipment maintenance checks.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to client outcomes and clinic performance.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure seamless client scheduling, billing, and processing of insurer paperwork.
  • Provide mentorship or supervision to kinesiology students or volunteers, fostering the next generation of professionals.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or a closely related field.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the provincial governing body (e.g., College of Kinesiologists of Ontario - COKO, British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists - BCAK).

Preferred Education:

  • A Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation Science, or a related discipline.
  • Additional certifications in areas such as FCE, ergonomics, or strength and conditioning (CSCS).
