Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive and detailed patient assessments, including subjective history, objective physical examinations, functional testing, and gait analysis to establish a precise clinical diagnosis.
- Develop, implement, and continually evaluate individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that are tailored to patient-specific goals, impairments, and functional limitations.
- Utilize advanced manual therapy techniques, including joint mobilizations, manipulations, and soft tissue release, to restore optimal joint mechanics, improve mobility, and reduce pain.
- Design and prescribe progressive therapeutic exercise programs focusing on improving strength, endurance, flexibility, motor control, balance, and coordination.
- Provide extensive patient education on their condition, prognosis, injury prevention strategies, pain management, and self-management techniques to empower them in their recovery journey.
- Maintain meticulous, accurate, and confidential patient records, including assessment findings, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries, in compliance with college and legal standards.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, communicating patient progress and coordinating care with physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, and other allied health providers.
- Administer and interpret standardized outcome measures to objectively track patient progress, demonstrate the effectiveness of interventions, and guide clinical decision-making.
- Perform specialized treatments for diverse patient populations, including those with motor vehicle accident (MVA) injuries, workplace (WSIB/WCB) claims, post-surgical conditions, and sports-related injuries.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in physiotherapy research, techniques, and best practices through continuous professional development, workshops, and advanced certifications.
- Manage a diverse and complex caseload, demonstrating strong organizational skills to effectively prioritize patient needs and manage time for high-quality service delivery.
- Assess for, prescribe, and provide training on the safe and effective use of assistive devices, bracing, and therapeutic taping to support patient function and recovery.
- Communicate professionally with third-party payers, including insurance companies and government agencies, by preparing detailed reports and treatment plans to justify care.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, clinical practice guidelines, and the ethical standards set forth by the governing provincial/national physiotherapy association.
- Perform specialized, certified techniques such as Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), functional dry needling, acupuncture, or pelvic floor physiotherapy, based on qualifications and patient needs.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and provide actionable recommendations to individuals and corporate clients to prevent work-related musculoskeletal injuries.
- Provide clinical mentorship and supervision to physiotherapy students, residents, and support personnel, fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Participate in the development and delivery of community outreach programs, health promotion initiatives, and educational workshops.
- Engage in quality assurance programs and peer reviews to contribute to a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement within the clinic.
