Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet patients with a warm and professional demeanor, escorting them from the waiting area to the designated treatment space to begin their therapy session.
  • Prepare patients for therapy by assisting them with changing into appropriate attire, positioning them comfortably and safely on treatment tables or equipment.
  • Set up and prepare therapeutic modalities as directed by the supervising therapist, including the application of hot packs, cold packs, and paraffin dips.
  • Skillfully operate and monitor therapeutic equipment during treatment, such as electrical stimulation units, ultrasound machines, and mechanical traction tables, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Guide patients through prescribed therapeutic exercise programs, demonstrating proper form and technique, and providing verbal cues and encouragement to ensure correct execution.
  • Closely observe patients during exercises and activities, promptly reporting any signs of fatigue, pain, or adverse reactions to the supervising therapist.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to therapists during complex patient transfers, ambulation training, and balance activities, utilizing gait belts and other assistive devices to ensure stability and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment by sanitizing treatment tables, mats, and equipment between patient use, adhering to strict infection control policies.
  • Manage the inventory of therapy supplies, including linens, lotions, and exercise bands, by restocking treatment rooms and informing the appropriate personnel when orders are needed.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties, such as answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, and managing patient check-in and check-out processes.
  • Accurately file, retrieve, and manage patient charts and electronic health records (EHR), ensuring all documentation is handled with confidentiality and care.
  • Assist with the assembly and maintenance of adaptive equipment, walkers, crutches, and other durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Launder and fold towels, gowns, and pillowcases used in the clinic, ensuring a constant supply of clean linens is available for patient care.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing clear instructions for non-clinical matters and relaying any patient concerns to the clinical staff.

  • Monitor the flow of the clinic, anticipating therapist needs and proactively preparing for the next patient to optimize clinic efficiency and minimize wait times.
  • Assist in maintaining departmental records, logs, and statistics, such as equipment maintenance schedules and temperature logs for hydrotherapy units.
  • Transport patients safely via wheelchair or stretcher to and from different departments within a larger hospital or medical facility.
  • Provide clear and concise education to patients and their families regarding the scheduling of future appointments and general clinic procedures.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings and in-service training to stay current with clinic policies, safety procedures, and to enhance personal skills.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 0-2 years of experience in a customer or patient-facing role.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting, such as a physical therapy clinic, hospital, or skilled nursing facility, is highly valued. Experience as a volunteer in a rehabilitation department or previous work as a CNA or Personal Trainer is also a strong asset.
