Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive suite of enterprise-level reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI platforms like Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
  • Write, optimize, and debug complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to extract and manipulate data from multiple sources including relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Collaborate directly with business stakeholders across various departments to gather, analyze, and document detailed reporting requirements, translating business needs into technical specifications.
  • Perform rigorous data validation and quality assurance testing to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all reports and underlying data before distribution.
  • Develop and implement automated processes for report generation, scheduling, and distribution to ensure timely delivery of information to key decision-makers.
  • Manage and maintain a centralized repository or library of standard reports, ensuring documentation is current and reports are easily accessible to authorized users.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex data discrepancies, reporting issues, and performance bottlenecks by investigating data lineage and query execution plans.
  • Transform raw data from various systems into clean, structured formats suitable for analysis and reporting, occasionally performing light ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tasks.
  • Create and uphold comprehensive documentation for all reports, including data sources, business logic, calculation definitions, and data dictionaries.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on how to effectively use and interpret reports and dashboards, fostering a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Analyze report usage statistics and performance metrics to identify opportunities for optimization, consolidation, or retirement of underutilized assets.
  • Manage user permissions and security roles within the reporting environment to ensure data is accessed in compliance with company policies and data governance standards.
  • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques to provide ongoing reports and identify significant trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Present analytical findings, key performance indicators (KPIs), and data-driven insights in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with Database Administrators and Data Engineers to understand data structures, advocate for necessary data model changes, and ensure optimal database performance.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced SQL Proficiency: Deep expertise in writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, common table expressions (CTEs), and window functions in environments like T-SQL or PL/SQL.
  • BI & Visualization Tools: Hands-on mastery of at least one major BI platform such as Power BI (including DAX), Tableau (including LOD expressions), SSRS, or Crystal Reports.
  • Microsoft Excel Mastery: Advanced skills including PivotTables, Power Query, complex nested formulas, and data modeling within Excel.
