Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously prepare a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces for painting, which includes scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and cleaning to ensure optimal paint adhesion and a flawless finish.
  • Protect all nearby furnishings, flooring, and fixtures by carefully covering them with drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and masking tape before beginning any work.
  • Select and mix paints and stains to match specific colors and consistencies, often working from client specifications or color samples.
  • Expertly apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces, trim, and fixtures, using brushes, rollers, and various spray equipment.
  • Operate and maintain airless sprayers and other power painting equipment, ensuring they are clean, in good working order, and used safely and effectively.
  • Erect and work safely from scaffolding, extension ladders, and lifts to access and paint hard-to-reach areas on multi-story homes.
  • Perform detailed finish work, including cutting clean, straight lines between different colors and surfaces, such as where walls meet ceilings or trim.
  • Identify and remedy surface imperfections, such as cracks, holes, and water damage, by applying putty, plaster, or other fillers.
  • Apply primers or sealers to new or repaired surfaces to prepare them for the finish coat and ensure a uniform appearance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications to understand project scope, materials, and finish requirements.
  • Calculate the amount of paint and materials needed for a project by taking surface measurements and accounting for the number of coats required.
  • Execute various decorative and faux finishing techniques, such as sponging, stippling, or creating textured finishes, based on client requests.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper handling of chemicals, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe ladder practices.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, providing updates on project progress, answering questions, and ensuring their vision is being met.
  • Manage time and workflow efficiently to complete projects within the established timeline and budget, often working independently or as part of a small crew.
  • Perform thorough cleanup upon project completion, including removing all coverings, cleaning up paint splatters, and returning furniture and fixtures to their original positions.
  • Inspect finished work to ensure it meets quality standards, is free of defects, and achieves complete client satisfaction before final sign-off.
  • Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, or using heat guns or chemical removers in preparation for new coatings.
  • Apply waterproofing and sealing compounds to exterior surfaces to protect them from moisture and weathering.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle and storage area, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and accounted for.
