Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Diagnose and resolve a wide range of residential plumbing issues, including leaks, low water pressure, clogs, and water temperature fluctuations, using industry-standard diagnostic procedures.
  • Install, service, and repair various plumbing fixtures and appliances, such as water heaters (tank and tankless), toilets, sinks, faucets, garbage disposals, and sump pumps.
  • Perform professional-grade drain cleaning services on sewer lines, main drains, and secondary lines using tools like drain snakes, augers, and high-pressure hydro-jetting equipment.
  • Utilize in-line video camera inspection equipment to accurately locate and assess the condition of underground pipes, identifying cracks, blockages, or root intrusion.
  • Execute the installation of new plumbing systems for residential construction and remodeling projects, including laying pipes and connecting fixtures according to blueprints and local codes.
  • Repair and replace damaged sections of water supply lines and drain/sewer lines, working with materials like copper, PEX, PVC, and cast iron.
  • Install, test, and repair backflow prevention devices to ensure the safety and potability of the household water supply.
  • Provide excellent, on-site customer service by clearly explaining plumbing problems, outlining all available repair or replacement options, and presenting clear, upfront pricing.
  • Prepare detailed work orders, invoices, and service reports for each job, accurately documenting materials used, time spent, and services rendered.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked service vehicle with the necessary tools, equipment, and inventory to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all local, state, and national plumbing codes, as well as all company and legal safety regulations, to ensure all work is compliant and safe.
  • Respond to emergency service calls in a timely and professional manner, often outside of normal business hours, to resolve urgent plumbing situations for homeowners.
  • Educate homeowners on preventative maintenance measures to help them protect their plumbing systems and avoid future issues.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of various materials, such as plastics, copper, or steel, for a range of residential applications.
  • Test plumbing systems for leaks and other issues using air and water pressure gauges and other appropriate testing equipment.
  • Perform gas line installation, leak detection, and repair services for residential appliances like stoves, dryers, and water heaters, following strict safety protocols.
  • Cut, weld, solder, and braze pipes and fittings to join them securely, ensuring a watertight and durable connection.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices or plumbing helpers, demonstrating proper techniques and safety practices.
  • Navigate and work within confined spaces, such as crawl spaces and attics, to access and service plumbing infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with other trade professionals, such as electricians and general contractors, during renovation or construction projects to ensure seamless project execution.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Drain Cleaning & Clearing: Proficiency with motorized drain augers (snakes) and high-pressure hydro-jetting equipment.
  • Fixture Installation & Repair: Expertise in installing and servicing toilets, faucets, sinks, showers, and garbage disposals.
  • Water Heater Service: Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair for both conventional tank and tankless water heaters.
  • Pipe Work: Skill in cutting, fitting, and joining various pipe materials, including copper, PEX, PVC, and galvanized steel.
  • Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Ability to systematically identify the root cause of complex plumbing failures.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Competence in interpreting technical drawings to understand plumbing system layouts for installation and repair.
