Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Warmly and graciously greet all incoming and departing guests, making a positive first impression and setting the tone for their dining experience.
- Manage the reservation system (such as OpenTable, Resy, or SevenRooms), taking bookings, confirming future reservations, and noting any guest allergies or special requests.
- Skillfully orchestrate the dining room floor by strategically assigning tables to guests, considering server sections, party size, and guest preferences to ensure a smooth service flow.
- Manage the waitlist during peak service hours, providing accurate wait time estimates and keeping waiting guests informed and comfortable.
- Escort guests to their tables, present menus in a professional manner, and ensure they are settled before introducing them to their server.
- Answer the restaurant's phone lines with professional etiquette, handling inquiries, taking messages, and directing calls appropriately.
- Communicate effectively and act as a liaison between guests, servers, bussers, and kitchen staff regarding table status, wait times, and guest needs.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the restaurant's menu, including daily specials, beverage offerings, and ingredients, to answer guest questions confidently.

- Handle initial guest concerns or complaints with empathy and poise, resolving issues when possible and escalating to a manager when necessary.
- Manage the coat check system, ensuring guest belongings are stored securely and returned promptly.
- Update table statuses within the POS or reservation system in real-time to maintain an accurate floor map for seating.
- Assist with light opening and closing duties for the front-of-house, such as organizing menus, checking restroom cleanliness, and preparing the host stand for service.
