Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively engage with customers to deliver an exceptional, personalized shopping experience, actively listening to their needs and providing insightful product recommendations.
  • Master our Point of Sale (POS) system to accurately and efficiently process a variety of transactions, including sales, returns, and exchanges, while handling payments with precision.
  • Develop a deep and comprehensive knowledge of our product catalog, brand story, and value proposition to effectively educate customers and act as a true brand ambassador.
  • Assist in maintaining impeccable visual merchandising and store presentation standards, including executing floor sets, building displays, and ensuring the sales floor is consistently neat and inviting.
  • Support all aspects of inventory management, from receiving and unpacking new shipments to restocking the sales floor and participating in cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Manage the fitting room experience by assisting customers with sizing, suggesting alternative styles, and promptly returning merchandise to the sales floor.
  • Actively learn and promote current sales, loyalty programs, and in-store events to maximize sales opportunities and enhance customer loyalty.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and issues with empathy and professionalism, seeking to find a positive resolution and escalating to management when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve and exceed daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets through proactive customer engagement and effective selling techniques.
  • Support the execution of store opening and closing procedures, ensuring all checklists are completed thoroughly and the store is prepared for business.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed on new products, operational changes, and performance goals.
  • Assist the leadership team in executing in-store marketing events and product launches, helping to create an exciting and memorable experience for shoppers.
  • Uphold all company policies and procedures, particularly those related to loss prevention and safety, to protect company assets and ensure a secure environment.

Secondary Functions

  • Conduct competitive analysis by visiting local competitors to gather intelligence on pricing, promotions, and merchandising strategies, presenting findings to the store leadership.
  • Assist the Store Manager in analyzing sales data and performance reports to identify product trends, top-sellers, and opportunities for growth.
  • Support omnichannel initiatives by assisting with the fulfillment of online orders, including picking, packing, and preparing items for shipment.
  • Shadow senior managers and department leads to gain a holistic understanding of retail management, operational decision-making, and people leadership.
  • Contribute to a capstone project focused on a real-world business challenge, such as proposing a new local marketing campaign or a process improvement for inventory flow.
  • Systematically gather and report on customer feedback to provide actionable insights for improving the in-store experience and product assortment.
  • Contribute to the store's social media channels by brainstorming content ideas and capturing authentic, brand-aligned photos and videos of new arrivals and in-store activities.
  • Monitor stock levels of essential supplies (bags, receipt paper, etc.) and key products to prevent shortages and assist in the reordering process.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • POS Systems: Familiarity or ability to quickly learn Point of Sale (POS) software for transaction processing.
  • Retail Math: Basic understanding of retail calculations, including discounts, sales tax, and units per transaction (UPT).
  • Inventory Management: Basic knowledge of inventory control principles like stock counts and replenishment.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Proficiency in using Excel and Word for basic reporting and communication.
  • Visual Merchandising: A creative eye and understanding of fundamental visual display and product placement principles.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, an accredited college or university.

Preferred Education:

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree.

Typical Experience Range: 0-1 years of work or volunteer experience.
