Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Receive, unload, and meticulously process merchandise from delivery trucks, verifying shipments against invoices or manifests for accuracy.
- Utilize handheld technology, such as RF scanners, to accurately track inventory, process inbound freight, and manage stock levels in real-time.
- Systematically break down pallets and sort merchandise by department, category, or specific aisle location to streamline the stocking process.
- Safely and efficiently transport merchandise from the stockroom or receiving area to the sales floor using carts, U-boats, dollies, or pallet jacks.
- Diligently stock shelves, pegs, racks, and promotional displays with new products, ensuring adherence to company planograms and merchandising standards.
- Execute proper stock rotation using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method to ensure product freshness and minimize waste, particularly for perishable goods.
- Maintain a highly organized, clean, and safe backroom environment, ensuring clear pathways and accessible storage locations for all backstock.
- Perform "facing" and "fronting" duties, pulling products to the front of the shelf to create a full, neat, and shoppable appearance for customers.
- Identify, report, and properly handle any damaged, expired, or discrepant merchandise according to company policy, processing it for claims or disposal.
- Actively participate in setting up, maintaining, and taking down promotional end caps, seasonal displays, and other special merchandising features.
- Conduct regular inventory counts, including cycle counts and full physical inventories, to help maintain the accuracy of the store's stock records.
- Consolidate and organize backstock merchandise in designated areas, ensuring it is properly labeled and easy to locate for future replenishment needs.
Secondary Functions
- Proactively assist customers on the sales floor by helping them locate products, answering questions about availability, and providing a positive shopping experience.
- Collaborate with the sales and merchandising teams to execute floor moves, rearrange displays, and implement new product layouts.
- Place and update shelf labels, price tags, and promotional signage with a high degree of accuracy to ensure pricing integrity.
- Collect, sort, and process cardboard, plastic wrap, and other waste materials for recycling, operating balers and compactors safely.
- Maintain cleanliness of the aisles and stockroom areas, addressing spills, debris, and other potential hazards promptly.
- Assemble products or displays as required, which may involve the use of basic hand tools and following assembly instructions.
- Communicate effectively with team members and department leadership regarding stock levels, replenishment priorities, and any workflow obstacles.
- Monitor inventory levels on the sales floor and communicate restocking needs to the appropriate team members or managers throughout a shift.
