Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and supervise the daily activities of a team of retail associates, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and to company standards.
  • Act as the Manager on Duty, taking full responsibility for the store's operation in the absence of senior management, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Drive sales performance by motivating the team, monitoring sales metrics, and implementing strategies to achieve or exceed sales targets and KPIs.
  • Provide continuous, on-the-floor coaching, training, and constructive feedback to team members to develop their skills in sales, customer service, and product knowledge.
  • Deliver an exceptional level of customer service by engaging with customers, resolving escalated complaints and issues with empathy and professionalism, and empowering the team to do the same.
  • Oversee and manage cash handling procedures, including point-of-sale (POS) transactions, daily cash reconciliation, bank deposits, and managing the store's safe.
  • Assist in inventory management processes, including receiving shipments, conducting cycle counts, organizing the stockroom, and ensuring inventory accuracy.
  • Implement and maintain visual merchandising standards, ensuring the sales floor is clean, organized, well-stocked, and visually appealing at all times.
  • Communicate company policies, promotions, and objectives clearly to the team, ensuring consistent execution and understanding.
  • Monitor and manage store security and loss prevention measures to protect company assets, including merchandise, cash, and property.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to associates, ensuring a balanced workload and leveraging individual strengths to maximize productivity.
  • Assist the Store Manager with creating weekly staff schedules that align with traffic patterns, payroll budgets, and employee availability.
  • Conduct pre-shift huddles or team meetings to set daily goals, share updates, and build team morale.
  • Uphold and enforce all health and safety regulations and protocols to ensure a safe environment for both employees and customers.
  • Handle complex customer transactions, such as high-value sales, returns, and exchanges, in accordance with company policy.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding process by participating in interviews and leading the training for new hires.

Secondary Functions

  • Analyze daily and weekly sales reports to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement, and discuss findings with the management team.
  • Coordinate and execute in-store promotional events, product launches, and marketing initiatives to drive traffic and engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the local community or regular clientele to foster loyalty and repeat business.
  • Assist in managing the store's operating expenses, such as supplies and payroll, to stay within budget.
  • Proactively identify operational inefficiencies or challenges and propose practical solutions to the Store Manager.
  • Stay current on market trends, competitor activities, and new product developments to better serve customers and inform store strategy.
  • Manage special orders, customer holds, and other personalized service requests to enhance the shopping experience.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Proficiency in operating various retail POS systems for transactions, reporting, and customer management.
  • Inventory Management Software: Experience with software for tracking stock levels, conducting counts, and managing product replenishment.
  • Cash Management: Expertise in cash handling, reconciliation, deposit preparation, and managing store floats.
  • Visual Merchandising: Knowledge of principles for product placement, display creation, and maintaining brand aesthetics.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Competency in using Word, Excel, and Outlook for communication, scheduling, and basic data analysis.
  • Loss Prevention Techniques: Understanding of strategies to minimize theft and shrink, including camera monitoring and EAS systems.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-4 years of experience in a retail environment, demonstrating progressive responsibility.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity, such as a Key Holder or Team Lead role, is strongly preferred.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a similar retail sector (e.g., fashion, electronics, specialty goods).
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and other key performance indicators in a previous role.
