Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Diligently prepare roofing worksites by setting up ladders, scaffolding, and perimeter safety lines in strict accordance with safety standards.
Systematically assist in the tear-off and removal of old roofing materials like shingles, tiles, and underlayment, ensuring the roof deck is cleared and prepped for new installation.
Safely and efficiently hoist and move roofing materials, tools, and equipment from ground level to the rooftop, distributing them strategically as directed by the crew lead.
Provide direct, hands-on assistance to lead roofers during the installation of new roofing systems, including laying felt paper, aligning shingles, and fastening materials.
Operate a variety of essential hand and power tools, such as pneumatic nail guns, circular saws, and utility knives, under the guidance and supervision of experienced tradespeople.
Perform foundational carpentry work, including identifying and replacing rotted or damaged plywood, fascia boards, and sheathing to ensure structural integrity.
Meticulously apply roofing adhesives, caulking, and sealants around roof penetrations like vents, pipes, and chimneys to create a durable, watertight seal.
Assist in the measurement, cutting, and fitting of roofing materials to precise specifications for valleys, ridges, and edges, minimizing waste and ensuring a professional finish.
Support the installation of critical roofing components such as flashing, drip edges, and ice and water shields to prevent water intrusion and protect vulnerable areas.
Actively participate in the application of various roofing systems, including asphalt shingles, metal panels, TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen, gaining broad exposure to different materials.

Secondary Functions

Maintain a constant state of worksite cleanliness and organization, continually clearing debris from the roof and ground to prevent hazards.
Perform thorough end-of-day and end-of-project cleanup, ensuring all tools are secured, materials are stored, and the client's property is left in pristine condition.
Take responsibility for the cleaning, maintenance, and proper storage of all company tools and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or damage immediately.
Actively participate in daily safety briefings ("toolbox talks") and consistently adhere to all OSHA and company-specific health and safety protocols without exception.
Serve as a reliable ground support person, anticipating the needs of the crew on the roof and efficiently fetching and passing up tools and materials to maintain workflow.
Cover and protect structures adjacent to the work area, such as windows, siding, and landscaping, to prevent accidental damage during roofing operations.
Assist in loading and unloading materials from work trucks and suppliers, verifying counts and inspecting for damage upon receipt.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with all team members, crew leads, and supervisors to ensure tasks are well-coordinated and clearly understood.
Endure and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods in challenging weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and wind.
