Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute the complete tear-off of old or damaged roofing systems, including shingles, tiles, underlayment, and flashing, to properly prepare the roof deck for new installation.
Efficiently and safely load and unload trucks, hoisting and distributing roofing materials, tools, and equipment across various job sites, often at significant heights.
Provide direct, hands-on support to skilled Roofers by passing materials, holding equipment, and anticipating crew needs to maximize workflow and project efficiency.
Competently operate a variety of essential hand tools (hammers, pry bars, utility knives) and power tools (nail guns, circular saws, drills) while strictly adhering to all safety protocols.
Assist in the professional application of new roofing materials, such as felt paper, ice and water shield, shingles, and metal panels, under the direct supervision of a lead installer.
Take proactive measures to protect customer property from damage by deploying tarps and other coverings over landscaping, siding, windows, and outdoor fixtures.
Consistently perform physically demanding tasks that require significant strength and endurance, including repetitively lifting and carrying heavy material bundles (50-80 lbs).
Contribute to the weatherproofing of the roof system by applying caulking, sealants, and adhesives to joints, vents, and flashing areas as directed.
Act as a crucial ground support person, precisely cutting materials to specified sizes and efficiently delivering them to the crew working on the roof.
Participate in the safe erection and dismantling of ladders, scaffolding, hoists, and other access equipment to ensure stable and secure working platforms.
Actively learn and absorb various roofing techniques, material knowledge, and best practices from experienced team members with a clear goal of skill advancement.

Secondary Functions

Perform continuous and thorough job site cleanup by gathering and properly disposing of old roofing materials, debris, and trash to maintain a safe and professional work environment.
Assist with the daily setup and breakdown of the job site, ensuring all tools and equipment are secured and the site is left clean and orderly.
Diligently monitor the work area for potential safety hazards, such as trip hazards or unsecured materials, and immediately report any concerns to the Crew Lead or Foreman.
Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order and to prolong their operational lifespan.
Maintain a clear and constant line of communication with all crew members, both on the roof and on the ground, to ensure coordinated and safe operations.
Develop a foundational understanding of and adhere to local building codes and manufacturer specifications for material installation under the guidance of senior staff.
Manage the on-site inventory of materials and supplies, ensuring all necessary components are accounted for and reporting any shortages to the supervisor promptly.
Demonstrate resilience and the capacity to work effectively in a variety of challenging weather conditions, including summer heat, cold, and wind.
Assist in the proper setup and inspection of fall protection systems, including safety lines, harnesses, and guardrails, as a core part of the daily safety routine.
