Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist in conducting regular safety inspections and comprehensive audits of facilities, equipment, and work practices to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Participate actively in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near-misses to help determine root causes and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Support the development, review, and updating of critical safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Help create and deliver engaging safety training materials and toolbox talks on diverse topics such as hazard communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout, and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in managing and meticulously maintaining safety documentation, including training records, inspection reports, incident logs, and OSHA 300 logs.
  • Engage directly with employees on the production floor and in offices to promote a strong safety culture, answer questions, and encourage proactive hazard reporting.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings by preparing agendas, taking minutes, tracking action items, and contributing to discussions on safety improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of workstations and physically demanding job tasks to identify risks for musculoskeletal disorders and recommend practical ergonomic solutions.
  • Assist with the comprehensive management of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program, including assessing needs, ensuring proper fit and use, and managing inventory.
  • Support various environmental compliance activities, such as hazardous waste management tracking, stormwater sampling, and maintaining environmental permit documentation.
  • Help perform detailed risk assessments for new equipment, processes, or chemicals being introduced into the workplace to ensure they are integrated safely.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance while on-site, ensuring their adherence to site-specific safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and execution of emergency response drills, including fire drills, site-wide evacuation drills, and simulated spill response exercises.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on key safety metrics and leading/lagging indicators to help track performance against goals and identify emerging trends.
  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT) to help ensure the organization remains in continuous compliance.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to safety trends, injury rates, and the effectiveness of safety initiatives.
  • Contribute to the organization's long-term EHS strategy and continuous improvement roadmap by providing fresh perspectives and research support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments such as Human Resources, Maintenance, and Operations to integrate safety considerations into all business activities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement projects that may extend beyond the immediate scope of safety.
  • Assist in maintaining the site's chemical inventory and ensuring all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are accessible, organized, and up-to-date.
  • Help organize and promote safety awareness campaigns and events, such as National Safety Week, wellness fairs, and specific safety challenges.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Foundational knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis, professional reporting, and creating training presentations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, complex safety procedures, and government regulations.
  • Familiarity with core safety management concepts like Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Risk Assessment, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Basic data collection and analytical skills to identify trends and patterns in safety metrics.
  • Understanding of chemical hazard communication principles and the structure of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program.

Preferred Education:

Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
