As a Sale Day Driver, you are the engine of our sales operation. You play a critical role in ensuring the seamless flow of vehicles through the entire auction or sales process. Your primary responsibility is the safe and efficient transportation of cars, trucks, and SUVs from receiving lots to staging areas, through the auction lanes or service bays, and to their final post-sale locations. This position requires a sharp eye for detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to operate a diverse fleet of vehicles in a bustling, high-energy environment. You are a key player in creating a positive experience for our clients and contributing directly to the success of each sale day.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and proficiently operate a diverse range of client vehicles, including sedans, trucks, and SUVs with both automatic and manual transmissions, as directed.
  • Transport vehicles between designated staging areas, service departments, detail bays, and auction lanes according to a dynamic daily schedule.
  • Precisely park and align vehicles in assigned numbered spots within the lot and sale lanes, maximizing space and ensuring orderly presentation.
  • Diligently follow instructions from auctioneers, dispatchers, and lot managers, whether delivered verbally, via two-way radio, or through hand signals.
  • Conduct basic pre-movement vehicle inspections, checking for obvious exterior damage, fluid leaks, or flat tires, and report any findings immediately.
  • Adhere strictly to all posted speed limits and safety protocols within the facility to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of staff and customers.
  • Maintain constant awareness of pedestrian traffic, other moving vehicles, and potential hazards in a fast-paced and crowded lot environment.
  • Use handheld scanning devices or mobile applications to accurately track vehicle movements, update locations, and confirm status changes in the inventory system.
  • Place and remove numbers, informational stickers, and marketing materials on vehicle windows as required for specific sales or processing steps.
  • Respond promptly to dispatch calls to move vehicles to and from the auction block, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted sale flow.
  • Verify vehicle identification numbers (VINs) against paperwork or digital records to ensure the correct vehicle is being moved at all times.
  • Assist in staging vehicles in the correct run order before the sale begins, often requiring careful maneuvering in tight formations.
  • Secure vehicles upon parking by setting the parking brake, closing all windows, and locking doors as per company procedure.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions, such as non-starts, dead batteries, or dashboard warning lights, to the mechanical or fleet department for resolution.
  • Keep the interior of vehicles clean during transport, refraining from adjusting personal settings or leaving any items behind.
  • Collaborate with Condition Report writers and check-in teams by moving vehicles to designated inspection points.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with jump-starting vehicles using a portable battery pack and following proper safety procedures.
  • Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of the vehicle lot, including removing debris from drive lanes.
  • Support the vehicle check-in process by guiding new arrivals to the correct drop-off zones.
  • Act as a spotter for other drivers who are navigating particularly large vehicles or maneuvering in tight quarters.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • A valid, state-issued Driver's License with a clean and insurable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Proficiency in operating vehicles with both automatic and manual (stick-shift) transmissions.
  • Ability to comfortably operate a wide range of vehicle sizes, from compact cars to large trucks and vans.
  • Experience using handheld electronic devices, such as scanners or smartphones, for inventory and tracking.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics to identify and report issues like dead batteries, flat tires, or engine warning lights.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and judgment for parking and maneuvering vehicles in confined spaces without incident.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-3 years of professional driving or vehicle handling experience. Must be comfortable behind the wheel and possess a strong safety record.

Preferred: Previous work experience at a car dealership, auto auction, rental car facility, body shop, or as a professional valet or lot attendant is highly advantageous.
