Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively engage with customers on the sales floor, establishing a genuine rapport to understand their specific camping and outdoor needs.
  • Provide expert, in-depth advice and personalized recommendations on a wide range of camping equipment, including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, and cooking systems.
  • Conduct hands-on product demonstrations, such as setting up a tent or explaining the features of a GPS device, to build customer understanding and confidence.
  • Actively listen to customer stories and trip plans to accurately assess their experience level and guide them toward appropriate gear solutions.
  • Drive sales by effectively communicating product value, benefits, and technical specifications, matching features to customer needs.
  • Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, while adhering to all cash handling and transaction policies.
  • Promote store loyalty programs, memberships, and special events to enhance the customer relationship and encourage repeat business.
  • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and empathy, seeking solutions to ensure a positive outcome.
  • Stay informed about current sales, promotions, and store-wide events to provide accurate information to customers.
  • Guide customers through the entire sales process, from initial greeting to final purchase, ensuring a seamless and positive shopping experience.

  • Educate customers on proper gear use, care, and maintenance to prolong the life of their purchases and ensure their safety.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the receiving, unpacking, and processing of new inventory shipments, ensuring all items are accounted for and correctly tagged.
  • Maintain the visual presentation of the camping department by stocking shelves, organizing displays, and ensuring a clean and orderly environment.
  • Execute merchandise floor sets, price changes, and promotional signage according to company directives and standards.
  • Participate in regular inventory management activities, including cycle counts and annual physical inventory, to maintain stock accuracy.
  • Continuously build upon product knowledge by attending vendor clinics, completing online training modules, and independently researching new gear.
  • Collaborate with team members and department leads to achieve daily and weekly sales goals and operational targets.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure store environment by being aware of surroundings and reporting any potential hazards or security concerns.
  • Support other departments as needed during peak traffic periods to ensure overall store success and customer satisfaction.
