Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously wash, wax, and detail both new and pre-owned vehicles to meet the dealership's pristine presentation standards for the showroom and sales lot.
  • Safely and efficiently maneuver a wide range of vehicles across the dealership lot, service bays, and showroom, strategically positioning inventory to maximize visibility and appeal.
  • Manage the organization and arrangement of the sales lot, ensuring vehicles are parked in straight, designated rows and are easily accessible for customer viewing and test drives.
  • Prepare vehicles for customer delivery, performing a final quality check, cleaning, and ensuring all required accessories and paperwork are present.
  • Ensure all front-line, demonstrator, and sold vehicles have adequate fuel levels, performing trips to the gas station as required to maintain operational readiness.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks, verifying the location and status of vehicles against inventory lists and reporting any discrepancies to sales management.
  • Receive and process new vehicle arrivals, carefully inspecting them for any in-transit damage, verifying VINs, and preparing them for lot placement.
  • Maintain the pristine appearance of the showroom, ensuring display vehicles are dust-free, properly positioned, and have charged batteries.
  • Install and remove dealership branding, such as license plate frames and window stickers, on vehicles as they are processed for the lot or sold to customers.
  • Assist the sales team by promptly retrieving vehicles for customer test drives and returning them to their designated spot afterward.
  • Jump-start vehicles with dead batteries and report any non-starting vehicles or noticeable mechanical issues to the service department or used car manager.
  • Remove snow and ice from vehicles during winter months to ensure the inventory remains accessible and presentable at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, including the detailing bay, supply closets, and service drive, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Catalogue and secure the keys for all lot vehicles, managing a key tracking system to ensure quick retrieval and prevent loss.
  • Assist with dealer trades by preparing vehicles for transport or driving vehicles to and from other dealership locations as directed.

Secondary Functions

  • Run errands for the sales or management team, such as picking up supplies, delivering documents, or dropping off marketing materials.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown for special sales events, promotional displays, and marketing activities on the dealership grounds.
  • Perform light facility maintenance duties, including sweeping the lot, emptying trash receptacles, and ensuring the dealership's exterior is clean and inviting.
  • Greet and direct customers in the lot, providing a friendly and helpful first point of contact and guiding them toward the showroom or appropriate personnel.
  • Support the service department by moving customer vehicles or assisting with service lane traffic flow during peak hours.
  • Assist the photography team by staging and preparing vehicles for online marketing photos, ensuring they are clean and positioned correctly.
  • Help maintain stocks of cleaning supplies, polishes, and other detailing materials, notifying management when reordering is necessary.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Driver's License & Clean Driving Record: A mandatory requirement for operating dealership and customer vehicles.
  • Vehicle Operation: Ability to competently and safely operate a wide variety of vehicles, including both automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Automotive Detailing: Knowledge of cleaning products, tools (buffers, pressure washers), and techniques for washing, waxing, and cleaning vehicle interiors and exteriors.
  • Spatial Awareness: Excellent judgment when maneuvering vehicles in tight spaces, on the lot, and within the service department.
  • Basic Vehicle Knowledge: Ability to identify common vehicle makes and models and perform basic tasks like checking fluid levels and jump-starting a battery.
