Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Proactively engage with showroom visitors, initiating conversations to understand their flooring needs, project scope, timeline, and design aspirations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, educating customers on the features, benefits, and applications of various flooring materials, including hardwood, LVP, carpet, tile, and laminate.
- Conduct comprehensive in-home consultations to perform precise measurements, assess subfloor conditions, and provide personalized design recommendations in the client's own space.
- Generate and present detailed, accurate project proposals and quotes, clearly outlining material costs, labor, and project timelines to ensure transparency.
- Master and utilize CRM software to meticulously track customer interactions, manage sales pipelines, and follow up on leads and outstanding quotes in a timely manner.
- Employ effective sales techniques and negotiation skills to overcome objections and consistently close sales, meeting or exceeding monthly and quarterly targets.
- Manage the end-to-end customer journey, acting as the primary point of contact from initial consultation through to post-installation follow-up, ensuring a seamless and positive experience.
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with homeowners, interior designers, contractors, and builders to generate repeat business and a strong referral network.
- Actively prospect for new business opportunities through networking, cold calling, and developing strategic partnerships within the local design and construction community.
- Resolve any customer service issues or complaints with professionalism and empathy, coordinating with installation and management teams to find swift and satisfactory solutions.
- Stay current with industry trends, new product innovations, installation techniques, and competitor activities to maintain a competitive edge.
- Provide expert guidance on color theory, texture, and style to help clients select flooring that complements their existing decor and achieves their desired aesthetic.
- Skillfully coordinate project logistics between the customer, warehouse, and installation crews to ensure materials are ordered correctly and installations are scheduled efficiently.
- Process sales orders, financing applications, and payments accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Perform post-installation follow-up calls or visits to guarantee client satisfaction, address any final questions, and ask for referrals or online reviews.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of product warranties, care, and maintenance, and effectively communicate this information to customers.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in maintaining the visual appeal and organization of the showroom, including updating product displays, organizing samples, and ensuring a clean, welcoming environment.
- Participate actively in team meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one coaching to continuously improve sales skills and product knowledge.
- Help manage the sample library, ensuring materials are checked out and returned properly and that inventory levels are sufficient.
- Collaborate with the marketing team by providing insights from the sales floor or identifying customers for potential project showcases and testimonials.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Deep Product Knowledge: Demonstrable expertise in a wide range of flooring materials (e.g., LVP, hardwood, engineered wood, carpet types, tile) and their respective installation methods.
- Sales & Quoting Software: Proficiency in using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, RFMS, QFloors) and estimating software to manage leads and generate accurate quotes.
- Accurate Measurement & Estimation: Ability to take precise measurements of rooms, stairs, and complex layouts, and to calculate material needs, including waste factors.
- Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Experience processing transactions, returns, and special orders through retail POS software.
- Basic Math & Geometry: Strong numerical skills for calculating square footage, linear feet, and project costs without errors.
- Design & Color Acumen: A natural eye for interior design, color coordination, and spatial planning.
