Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively develop and execute a comprehensive strategic sales plan to achieve and exceed sales targets and expand the company's customer base within an assigned territory.
  • Cultivate, nurture, and maintain robust, long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders, including plumbing contractors, mechanical engineers, wholesalers, distributors, and general contractors, serving as their trusted advisor.
  • Actively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities through various channels, including strategic prospecting, cold calling, industry networking, and diligent follow-up on marketing-generated leads.
  • Deliver compelling and technically accurate product demonstrations and presentations to diverse audiences, clearly articulating the value proposition, features, and benefits of our plumbing solutions.
  • Offer pre-sale and post-sale technical support and in-depth product education to customers, guiding them in selecting the appropriate products for their specific applications and assisting in troubleshooting any issues.
  • Meticulously prepare and present detailed quotes, proposals, and sales contracts that are tailored to meet specific customer requirements and project specifications.
  • Skillfully negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with clients to close sales agreements that are mutually beneficial and align with company profitability goals.
  • Maintain an in-depth, expert-level knowledge of the company's full range of plumbing products, as well as evolving industry trends, competitor activities, and relevant building codes.
  • Diligently manage the entire sales pipeline using CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), ensuring all activities, opportunities, and customer interactions are accurately tracked, updated, and reported.
  • Work in close collaboration with internal teams—including marketing, product development, engineering, and customer service—to ensure a seamless, coordinated, and positive customer experience.
  • Professionally represent the company at industry trade shows, contractor events, conferences, and networking functions to generate leads, build brand awareness, and strengthen professional relationships.
  • Gather and relay critical market intelligence, competitor insights, and customer feedback to management and product development teams to inform future product enhancements and business strategies.
  • Strategically develop, manage, and support a network of distribution and wholesale partners, providing them with the necessary training and resources to effectively promote and sell our products.
  • Perform regular job site visits to understand project challenges, provide on-site consultation, ensure proper product application, and guarantee customer satisfaction from start to finish.
  • Consistently meet or exceed established monthly, quarterly, and annual sales quotas and other key performance indicators (KPIs) set by sales management.
  • Analyze complex sales data and market trends within the territory to identify untapped opportunities for growth and to refine sales strategies for maximum effectiveness.
  • Develop and present accurate sales forecasts, territory performance reports, and business plans to sales management on a regular basis.
  • Professionally and expediently resolve customer issues, complaints, and inquiries to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, trust, and long-term retention.
  • Actively work with architects, engineers, and specifiers during the design phase to get our plumbing products specified into project plans, blueprints, and construction documents.
  • Responsibly manage the territory budget, including travel and entertainment expenses, in accordance with all company policies to ensure a positive return on investment.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis to identify new market pockets or customer trends.
  • Contribute to the organization's broader sales strategy and go-to-market roadmap discussions.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department to provide field-level insights for the development of new sales collateral and campaigns.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies if the sales team operates within such a framework.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep Plumbing Product Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of residential and commercial plumbing systems, PEX, copper, PVC, fittings, valves, and related technologies.
  • CRM Proficiency: Advanced skills in using CRM platforms like Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar systems for pipeline management and reporting.
  • Blueprint & Specification Reading: The ability to read, interpret, and analyze architectural blueprints, submittals, and technical project specifications.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-7 years of outside sales experience, ideally in a role with a technical component.

  • Demonstrable experience selling to and building relationships with plumbing contractors, wholesalers, and specifying engineers.
