Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet every customer with a warm and genuine welcome, establishing a positive and friendly atmosphere at the checkout counter.
  • Efficiently and accurately process customer transactions using the Point of Sale (POS) system, including cash, credit/debit cards, gift cards, and mobile payments.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy when handling cash, making change, and balancing the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Expertly handle customer returns, exchanges, and warranty claims in accordance with company policies, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
  • Proactively engage customers by clearly explaining and promoting our loyalty programs, store credit card benefits, and current promotional offers.
  • Carefully bag, box, or wrap customer purchases to ensure items are secure and protected for transport.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area to ensure a smooth and efficient customer flow.
  • Address customer questions and concerns with patience and professionalism, escalating complex issues to a manager when necessary.
  • Uphold all company policies related to loss prevention and security, including checking for fraudulent currency and verifying identification for age-restricted purchases.
  • Thank every customer for their purchase and invite them to return, leaving a lasting positive impression of our brand.
  • Assist in the opening and closing procedures for the front end, including cashing out registers and preparing daily deposit paperwork.
  • Resolve pricing discrepancies by liaising with floor staff or management to confirm correct prices and apply appropriate discounts.
  • Stay informed about product locations, features, and in-store promotions to effectively assist customers with last-minute inquiries.
  • Operate all checkout equipment, including cash registers, scanners, and credit card terminals, with proficiency and care.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide support on the sales floor during slower periods by greeting customers, answering product questions, and directing them to relevant departments.
  • Assist with light merchandising and recovery tasks, such as restocking impulse-buy items at the front end and tidying up nearby displays.
  • Answer incoming store phone calls in a professional manner, routing inquiries to the appropriate team member or department.
  • Participate in maintaining overall store cleanliness and organization, contributing to a safe and pleasant shopping environment for everyone.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with price checks, cycle counts, and putting away small items from new shipments when needed.
  • Act as an extra set of eyes and ears for loss prevention, reporting any suspicious activity to the manager on duty.
  • Collaborate effectively with sales associates and stock team members to ensure a seamless and positive end-to-end customer journey.
  • Communicate customer feedback, common questions, and any potential operational improvements to the store leadership team.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in operating Point of Sale (POS) systems and other cash register equipment.
  • Strong basic math and cash-handling skills for accurate transaction processing and till balancing.
  • Familiarity with various payment methods, including credit, debit, mobile pay, and gift cards.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate new retail software and technology.
  • Knowledge of retail security and loss prevention best practices.
