Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Receive and inspect incoming seasonal merchandise shipments; verify packing lists and purchase orders for accuracy, note and report any discrepancies or damaged goods, and initiate claims when required.
- Unpack, tag, and stage seasonal product assortments in backstock and on the sales floor following merchandising calendars, vendor instructions, and store planograms.
- Execute seasonal floor sets and visual displays end-to-end: assemble fixtures, install signage, style feature tables, and ensure displays match corporate visual standards and promotional guidelines.
- Maintain planogram compliance by rearranging, spacing, and facings to prescribed layouts; perform shelf resets, size and color blocking, and SKU rotations to maximize category sell-through.
- Replenish sales floor inventory proactively throughout the day, prioritize high-demand SKUs during peak hours, and maintain accurate on-floor availability to reduce lost sales.
- Price and markdown merchandise accurately using handheld devices, price guns or POS tools; apply seasonal promotions, discount tags, and clearance signage following markdown schedules.
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems for customer purchases, returns and exchanges; process transactions with accuracy and follow cash handling policies and security procedures.
- Assist customers with product selection, upselling seasonal add-ons, answering product questions, and guiding gift or holiday purchases to drive conversion and average transaction value.
- Participate in daily and nightly inventory cycle counts and full seasonal stocktakes; reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and system records and document root-cause findings.
- Use handheld scanners and inventory management systems to perform receiving, putaway, location transfers and bin replenishment; ensure accuracy of SKU locations and par levels.
- Manage backroom organization and stockroom flow to maximize receiving throughput and minimize processing time for seasonal shipments.
- Coordinate with store leadership, visual merchandising team, and vendors to set up in-store events, seasonal pop-ups, and vendor-provided displays or fixtures.
- Execute product returns to vendor and inter-store transfers per company policy; prepare shipments for outbound transfer and maintain return logs.
- Monitor inventory shrinkage and loss-prevention indicators; follow security protocols for suspicious transactions and support investigations when necessary.
- Maintain store cleanliness and safety standards in merchandise areas; follow OSHA and company safety guidelines when assembling fixtures, using ladders, or operating pallet jacks.
- Support online order fulfillment and buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPIS) processes during peak seasons by picking, staging and tracking customer orders accurately and promptly.
- Document receiving and merchandise issues including shortages, overages, and damaged merchandise; escalate supply chain or quality issues with clear, timely communication to buyers and store management.
- Provide onboarding and training support for temporary and seasonal staff on merchandising procedures, POS basics, and safety policies to ensure consistent execution across shifts.
- Track and report daily sell-through, inventory levels, and replenishment needs to assistant managers and inventory planners; recommend reorders or markdown actions to accelerate movement.
- Assist with pricing integrity and signage audits across seasonal categories to ensure customers see accurate pricing both on the floor and in digital channels.
- Troubleshoot product presentation or replenishment bottlenecks; propose process improvements for receiving, staging or visual execution to increase efficiency during high-volume periods.
- Coordinate with loss prevention and management to secure high-value seasonal items and implement safe stocking and display practices.
- Support special projects such as seasonal buyback programs, donation initiatives, or recycling/returns projects as requested by store leadership.
Secondary Functions
- Help maintain and update online inventory availability and product status for seasonal items to reduce online-to-store pick failures.
- Assist merchandising/planning teams by providing on-the-ground feedback about customer preferences, sell-through trends, and promotional performance.
