Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Diligently patrol assigned areas, both on foot and via vehicle, to deter criminal activity, identify safety hazards, and ensure the security of all doors, windows, and gates.
  • Operate and meticulously monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and other surveillance equipment to observe and report any suspicious behavior or security breaches.
  • Strictly manage access control at facility entrances, verifying credentials, issuing visitor badges, and maintaining accurate logs of all individuals entering and exiting the premises.
  • Provide a prompt and effective first response to all alarms, including fire, intrusion, and duress alarms, following established emergency procedures and coordinating with emergency services.
  • Author detailed, accurate, and professional daily activity logs and incident reports, documenting observations, patrol activities, and any security incidents or unusual occurrences.
  • Enforce all company security policies, safety regulations, and property rules in a firm but courteous manner to maintain order and protect personnel and assets.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting employees, visitors, and contractors with directions, information, and other security-related inquiries in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Conduct thorough security checks and inspections of buildings, equipment, and access points to ensure they are properly secured and functional, reporting any deficiencies immediately.
  • Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to peacefully resolve disputes and manage difficult situations involving agitated or non-compliant individuals.
  • Serve as a key liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency response agencies during incidents, providing them with critical information and support.
  • Monitor and operate life safety systems, including fire alarm panels and suppression systems, and assist in building evacuations during drills or actual emergencies.
  • Administer basic First Aid, CPR, or use an AED in response to medical emergencies, providing critical care until professional medical personnel arrive on the scene.
  • Perform screening of individuals, packages, and vehicles using metal detectors, x-ray machines, or manual inspection techniques to prevent prohibited items from entering the facility.
  • Investigate and document initial findings of security breaches, accidents, thefts, and other incidents by interviewing witnesses and gathering preliminary evidence.
  • Maintain a visible and commanding presence to deter unauthorized or inappropriate actions and to provide a sense of security for all personnel and visitors.
  • Provide security escorts for employees and visitors to their vehicles or other locations on the premises, particularly during late hours or as requested.
  • Operate two-way radios, telephones, and other communication devices to effectively communicate with fellow officers, supervisors, and central dispatch.
  • Secure facilities at the close of business by performing comprehensive lockdown procedures, including checking all entry points and activating alarm systems.
  • Respond to and investigate non-criminal incidents, such as property damage or safety hazards, and create detailed reports for facilities and management teams.
  • Participate in and contribute to ongoing security training programs, safety meetings, and emergency drills to maintain proficiency and readiness for any situation.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during peak hours, special events, or emergencies to ensure safe and efficient movement around the property.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all security-related information, investigations, and company-sensitive data observed during the course of duty.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with the distribution and tracking of keys, credentials, and access cards.
  • Provide basic support for special events, including crowd management, parking control, and VIP assistance.
  • Receive and log mail or deliveries after regular business hours, securing them until collected by the appropriate personnel.
  • Report maintenance issues such as burned-out lights, water leaks, or malfunctioning doors discovered during patrols to the facilities department.
