Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively and meticulously clear tables of all used dishes, glassware, and cutlery, preparing the space for the next guests with speed and discretion.
  • Expertly reset tables according to precise restaurant standards, ensuring fresh linens, polished silverware, and spotless glassware are perfectly in place.
  • Maintain a constant and vigilant watch over guest beverage levels, providing timely refills of water and other non-alcoholic drinks without needing to be asked.
  • Act as a critical link between the kitchen and the dining room, assisting servers by delivering food orders to tables accurately and efficiently.
  • Keep all service stations fully stocked throughout the shift with essential items, including ice, water pitchers, coffee, clean glassware, and folded napkins.
  • Observe the dining room floor with a keen eye, anticipating guest needs such as a dropped napkin, a request for condiments, or the need for a table to be cleared.
  • Assist servers by professionally packaging leftover food for guests, ensuring it is done hygienically and presented neatly.
  • Collaborate closely with the host team by providing real-time updates on table status to help manage waitlists and seat new arrivals promptly.
  • Respond immediately and effectively to any spills or breakage in the dining room, ensuring guest safety and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Transport bus tubs filled with used dishware from the dining room to the dishwashing area, helping to keep service stations clear and organized.
  • Consistently polish silverware and glassware to a high shine, ensuring all service items are pristine before they reach the guest.
  • Provide initial guest services, such as delivering bread and butter service shortly after guests are seated, creating a welcoming first impression.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the entire dining area, including wiping down chairs, sweeping floors, and ensuring service corridors are clear.
  • Develop a foundational knowledge of the menu to assist in food delivery and answer basic guest inquiries about dishes.
  • Adhere rigorously to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe environment for both guests and fellow team members.
  • Support the opening and closing procedures for the dining room, including setting up stations, arranging tables, and completing end-of-shift cleaning checklists.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all front-of-house and back-of-house team members to foster a collaborative and efficient workflow.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and stock levels of guest restrooms throughout the shift.
  • Help preserve the restaurant's desired ambiance by monitoring lighting, sound levels, and overall tidiness.
  • Organize and restock clean linens, performing napkin folding and other preparatory tasks to ensure readiness for service.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in end-of-shift inventory counts for linens, glassware, and silverware.
  • Participate in pre-shift team meetings to review daily specials, service notes, and large party reservations.
  • Support the hosting team by communicating table status and assisting with seating during peak service hours.
  • Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and organization of shared storage areas and back-of-house spaces.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Tray Handling: Ability to confidently carry a loaded oval tray and multiple plates at once.
  • Table Setting Knowledge: Familiarity with various dining settings, from casual to fine dining.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Understanding of basic food safety principles (certification is a plus).
  • Expediting & Food Running: Skill in organizing and delivering dishes from the kitchen to the correct guest.
    -Glassware & Silverware Polishing: Proper technique to ensure all service items are spotless and presentable.
  • Beverage Service: Competency in pouring water, coffee, and other beverages professionally.
  • POS System Familiarity: Basic exposure to or ability to quickly learn restaurant Point of Sale systems.
  • Cleaning Protocols: Knowledge of appropriate cleaning and sanitizing agents and their uses.
  • Station Stocking & Organization: Ability to maintain a fully stocked and orderly service station during a busy shift.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is generally required.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or vocational coursework in Hospitality, Food Service, or a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or other hospitality environment is highly valued. However, we welcome candidates with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a genuine eagerness to learn the fundamentals of great service.
