Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet and welcome all customers arriving in the service drive with a professional, friendly, and prompt demeanor, setting a positive tone for their service visit.
  • Safely and efficiently move customer and dealership vehicles to designated parking areas, service bays, and the car wash, ensuring careful handling at all times.
  • Install protective coverings, such as floor mats, seat covers, and steering wheel covers, in customer vehicles prior to maintenance or repair work.
  • Retrieve customer vehicles in a timely manner upon completion of service, presenting them with the keys and a final positive interaction.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the service drive, customer drop-off/pick-up areas, and service parking lot, ensuring they are free of debris and hazards.
  • Perform a complimentary wash and vacuum on customer vehicles after service is completed, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Manage the flow and direction of traffic within the service lane and dealership lot to prevent congestion and maintain an orderly environment.
  • Organize and maintain the parking arrangement of vehicles in the service lot, ensuring vehicles are easy to locate and retrieve for technicians and advisors.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with Service Advisors, Technicians, and Managers regarding vehicle location, status, and any customer requests.
  • Conduct a thorough walk-around inspection of vehicles upon arrival to identify and document any pre-existing damage, reporting findings to the Service Advisor.
  • Verify vehicle information against the service appointment, confirming customer identity and the correct vehicle for service.
  • Manage the dealership's key tracking system meticulously, ensuring all vehicle keys are properly tagged, secured, and accounted for.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are properly locked and that the lot is secured at the close of business each day.

Secondary Functions

  • Operate the dealership's customer shuttle service, providing safe and courteous transportation for clients to and from their desired locations.
  • Assist the Parts Department by running errands, such as picking up parts from other dealerships or local suppliers.
  • Support service technicians by moving vehicles into and out of service bays and to and from sublet vendor locations as required.
  • Monitor and maintain the dealership's loaner vehicle fleet, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and fuel, and reporting any required maintenance.
  • Perform light facility maintenance duties, such as sweeping floors, emptying trash receptacles, and clearing snow or ice from walkways and service entrances.
  • Assist with the check-in and inspection of new vehicles delivered to the dealership, verifying VINs and noting any transit damage.
  • Refuel customer and company vehicles as directed by management, accurately logging fuel usage and receipts.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficient and safe operation of both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Possession of a valid, state-issued Driver’s License with a clean and insurable driving record.
  • Basic understanding of automotive fundamentals and terminology.
  • Ability to operate automated car wash equipment and use various cleaning/detailing supplies effectively.
  • Familiarity with using key management systems and basic computer or tablet applications for vehicle check-in.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate from a vocational or technical program in Automotive Technology.

Relevant Fields of Study:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0 - 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred: Prior experience in a customer-facing role is highly advantageous. Experience gained at a car dealership, car rental agency, valet service, or in a role requiring vehicle handling is strongly preferred.
