Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assist the lead teacher in the implementation of daily lesson plans and instructional activities, adapting tasks to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group academic reinforcement to students, clarifying instructions and reteaching concepts in subjects like math, reading, and writing.
- Supervise students across various school settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, playground, and hallways, to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Actively monitor student behavior, implementing the classroom management system to encourage positive conduct and applying de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Work closely with students with special needs, helping to implement accommodations and modifications outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans.
- Prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials, classroom supplies, and educational technology for daily lessons and activities.
- Help create a visually engaging and stimulating learning environment by preparing bulletin boards, learning centers, and displaying student work.
- Observe student performance, behavior, and social interactions, documenting key observations to provide valuable feedback to the lead teacher and support staff.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture where every student feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.
- Assist students with fundamental personal care and daily living activities as needed, such as tying shoes, hygiene, and navigating the lunch line, with dignity and respect.
- Operate classroom technology, including smart boards, computers, tablets, and audio-visual equipment, to support instruction.
- Read stories to individuals or the entire class to promote literacy development and cultivate a passion for reading.
- Assist in the administration and proctoring of classroom quizzes, standardized tests, and other assessments, ensuring a fair and quiet testing environment.
- Model appropriate social skills, conflict resolution strategies, and ethical behavior for all students.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records, personal information, and school-related matters.
- Escort and guide students safely to and from buses, specials (art, music, P.E.), the library, and the nurse's office.
Secondary Functions
- Chaperone students during school-sponsored field trips, ensuring their safety and encouraging their engagement in the activity.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the classroom, including learning stations, bookshelves, and supply closets.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Communicate professionally and constructively with parents/guardians as directed by the lead teacher, often during drop-off/pickup or school events.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Classroom Management Techniques: Ability to support and enforce classroom rules and behavior management strategies.
- Knowledge of Child Development: Understanding of the academic, social, and emotional stages of child development.
- First Aid & CPR Certification: Certified or willing to become certified in basic first aid and CPR.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
