Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive and ongoing training needs analyses (TNA) in partnership with department heads to identify knowledge gaps and learning priorities within engineering, sales engineering, customer support, and professional services teams.
- Design, develop, and own the strategic roadmap for all technical training initiatives, ensuring tight alignment with product release schedules, business objectives, and overall corporate strategy.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of technical trainers and instructional designers, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to foster their growth.
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of technical curriculum development, from initial scoping and content design to authoring, piloting, deployment, and long-term maintenance across various formats.
- Champion and implement a blended learning methodology, leveraging a mix of instructor-led training (ILT), virtual instructor-led training (VILT), e-learning modules, video tutorials, hands-on labs, and documentation.
- Establish and manage a robust certification program for internal teams, partners, or customers to validate expertise and proficiency with the company's products and technologies.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) across Product, Engineering, and a variety of other departments to extract key knowledge and translate complex technical concepts into accessible and engaging learning content.
- Define, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness, business impact, and ROI of training programs, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage the departmental budget, including forecasting expenses for staffing, tools, vendor services, and content development, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
- Evaluate, select, and manage the relationship with the Learning Management System (LMS) provider and other learning technology vendors to ensure the platform effectively supports the delivery and tracking of training.
- Develop and execute a scalable "train-the-trainer" program to enable internal SMEs and regional trainers to deliver standardized, high-quality training content globally.
- Personally deliver or facilitate high-stakes training sessions for senior leadership, key partners, or strategic customers when required.
- Stay current with the latest trends, best practices, and technologies in the learning and development and technical training fields to drive innovation within the team.
- Create and maintain a centralized, easily accessible repository of all training materials and resources for on-demand learning and performance support.
- Develop tailored onboarding programs for new technical hires to accelerate their ramp-up time and ensure a consistent baseline of product and systems knowledge.
- Partner with Sales and Partner Enablement teams to create technical training content that supports the sales cycle and empowers channel partners to successfully represent the product portfolio.
- Build and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the technical organization.
- Oversee the logistics and coordination of all training events, including scheduling, resource allocation, and communication with participants.
- Develop assessment strategies, including quizzes, hands-on exercises, and final exams, to accurately measure learning comprehension and skill acquisition.
- Act as the primary stakeholder and point of contact for all cross-functional requests related to technical education and enablement.
Secondary Functions
- Manage relationships with and the performance of third-party training content providers and freelance instructional designers.
