Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assume full operational command of various dyeing machines, including jet, beam, jigger, and package dyeing equipment, ensuring they are properly set up, calibrated, and maintained for optimal performance.
  • Accurately calculate, weigh, and mix dyes, pigments, and auxiliary chemicals according to established formulas to create precise color baths for production runs.
  • Develop and match new color shades to meet demanding customer specifications, utilizing both expert visual assessment under controlled lighting and instrumental color measurement tools like spectrophotometers.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve complex dyeing issues such as unlevelness, color spots, shade deviations, or barré to minimize rework and material waste.
  • Execute and meticulously evaluate laboratory-scale dye trials (lab dips) to create, approve, and refine new color formulas before scaling up to bulk production.
  • Continuously monitor all stages of the dyeing cycle—including pre-treatment, dyeing, and post-treatment—adjusting temperature, pressure, time, and chemical dosing to ensure process consistency.
  • Perform rigorous quality control checks on dyed textiles, assessing for shade consistency against standards, color fastness (crocking, washing, light), and physical defects.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate production records, including dye formulas, process parameters, lot numbers, and quality control results for traceability, process analysis, and future reference.
  • Strictly adhere to all workplace health and safety protocols, including the proper handling, labeling, and storage of hazardous chemicals and the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Routinely calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on dyeing machinery, laboratory equipment, and color measurement instruments to ensure accuracy and operational reliability.
  • Manage the re-processing and color correction of off-shade or defective batches, applying expert knowledge to salvage material and meet quality targets efficiently.
  • Implement and manage robust procedures to ensure shade continuity and consistency across different dye lots and production periods, a critical factor for large-scale programs.
  • Analyze and interpret data from wash fastness, crocking, and light fastness tests to validate the performance of dyed fabrics and troubleshoot any performance failures.

Secondary Functions

  • Oversee the inventory of dyes, chemicals, and other raw materials, communicating with the purchasing department to ensure adequate stock levels and prevent production delays.

  • Stay current with industry advancements, new technologies, and emerging trends in textile dyeing, coloration, sustainable chemistry, and digital color management.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on dyeing trials, production issues, and process improvement initiatives for review by management and technical teams.
