Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist in the setup, calibration and basic operation of weaving, knitting, spinning, dyeing and finishing machines according to production schedules and standard operating procedures; perform routine machine adjustments to maintain fabric specifications and minimize waste.
  • Perform systematic fabric inspections using AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) methods to detect and classify defects (holes, slubs, shade variation, knit runs) and document findings accurately for production and quality teams.
  • Measure and record critical quality parameters (GSM, tensile strength, width, color fastness, shrinkage) using micrometers, GSM cutters, tensiometers and color-matching tools and relay results to supervisors and quality labs.
  • Execute in-line and end-of-line quality checks, segregate non-conforming material, apply hold tags, and coordinate rework or scrap disposition with quality assurance and production leads to maintain on-spec output.
  • Support machine changeovers and spool/beam changes, ensuring correct yarn/frame loading, tension settings and threading to minimize downtime and rejects during product transitions.
  • Maintain accurate production records and data entry in ERP/WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, local MES) for daily output, downtime, scrap rates, and material consumption to support traceability and reporting.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with preventive maintenance activities (cleaning, lubrication, belt and roller inspection) and perform basic troubleshooting (replace needles, change rollers, clear yarn breaks) to restore production quickly.
  • Prepare production materials and convert raw materials (yarn beams, greige fabric) to required formats for downstream processes; label and stage goods according to FIFO and production schedule.
  • Support dyeing and finishing operations by preparing shade cards, monitoring bath temperatures, pH and liquor ratios, and assisting operators with color matching and shade control to meet customer specifications.
  • Execute sample preparation and laboratory tests for new orders: assist in developing prototypes, record sample results and collaborate with technicians and chemists to refine process parameters.
  • Monitor production line performance metrics (yield, uptime, OEE) and proactively report variances and potential bottlenecks to supervisors; suggest corrective actions based on trending observations.
  • Apply and enforce safety and environmental procedures for chemical handling, solvent use and mechanical operations; ensure correct use of PPE and adherence to MSDS instructions.
  • Perform visual and hand-finishing operations such as minor repairs, edge trimming, hand-sewing, or seam reinforcement to reduce rejects and meet final inspection requirements.
  • Support packing and labeling operations to ensure finished goods meet packaging specifications, correct labeling, barcodes and shipment documentation for logistics and export compliance.
  • Assist with inventory management of raw materials, spare parts and consumables: cycle counts, bin organization, issuing material for production and reporting shortages to supply chain coordinators.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving sessions (5 Whys, fishbone) for recurring defects; assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and documenting results.
  • Follow and help improve standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials; deliver or support on-the-job training for new hires and temporary staff.
  • Coordinate with the quality laboratory to gather test results, support corrective action implementation, and ensure that off-spec batches are processed using defined procedures.
  • Assist in waste reduction and cost-control initiatives by monitoring material usage, promoting best practices (minimizing off-cuts, optimizing set-ups) and documenting improvement results.
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, product specifications and relevant certifications (ISO 9001, OEKO-TEX, GOTS) by maintaining accurate records and participating in internal audits.
  • Conduct basic equipment calibration checks for measuring instruments and report deviations; arrange calibration or replacement through maintenance or metrology services.
  • Support sample room and product development teams with swatch organization, shade sequencing, and documentation to accelerate sampling cycles and customer approvals.
  • Maintain production area cleanliness and 5S standards—sweep, organize tools, dispose of waste correctly, and keep emergency exits and aisles clear to support a safe working environment.
  • Escalate production, quality or safety incidents promptly to supervisors and document incident details accurately to support investigations and compliance reporting.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist product development and merchandising teams with bill-of-materials validation, fabric consumption estimates, and MOQ discussions to support quoting and planning.
  • Support continuous improvement projects by collecting production data, participating in kaizen events, and helping implement small-scale experiments to validate process changes.
  • Contribute to training documentation and cross-training schedules to increase floor flexibility and reduce single-point dependencies.
  • Help coordinate with external laboratories and vendors for third-party testing, sample exchange and certification processes when required.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for internal audits and supplier assessments by preparing requested documents, samples and production records.
  • Aid in implementing digital transformation activities (scanning work orders, tracking production on tablets, simple MES input) to improve data availability for managers.
