Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate, set up, and troubleshoot advanced textile manufacturing equipment, including knitting machines (e.g., Stoll, Shima Seiki), weaving looms, and dyeing vats, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Conduct rigorous quality control inspections on raw materials (yarns, fibers), in-process fabrics, and finished textile products to ensure they meet stringent company and client specifications.
  • Perform a wide range of standardized laboratory tests—such as colorfastness, tensile strength, pilling, and abrasion resistance—using AATCC and ASTM methodologies.
  • Accurately prepare and document test samples, meticulously recording all procedures, observations, and results in our quality management system for full traceability.
  • Develop, refine, and execute color formulations and dye recipes to match design standards and ensure absolute color consistency across all production batches.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and production machinery to ensure operational accuracy and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate closely with textile designers and product developers to create functional prototypes and samples, providing critical technical feedback on construction feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Analyze test data and production metrics to identify trends, pinpoint root causes of defects, and recommend effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive and organized digital and physical records of production runs, quality assessments, machine settings, and material usage.
  • Interpret complex technical specifications, design sheets, and production orders to ensure the precise execution of all manufacturing processes from start to finish.
  • Program and adjust settings on computerized knitting or weaving machinery to create specific fabric structures, textures, and intricate patterns as per design requirements.
  • Evaluate and test new raw materials and yarns from potential suppliers to assess their quality, performance, and suitability for our production lines.
  • Monitor and control environmental conditions within the production facility, such as humidity and temperature, to ensure they are optimal for high-quality textile processing.
  • Ensure all activities strictly adhere to environmental, health, and safety protocols, including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and dyes.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and data-driven summaries of test findings for management, design teams, and external clients.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to material performance and production efficiency.
  • Contribute to the organization's material innovation strategy by researching and testing emerging textile technologies and sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate new product needs into tangible engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other agile ceremonies within the product development and production teams.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new technicians and machine operators on standard operating procedures, safety, and quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen or Lean Manufacturing events, to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Manage the physical and digital library of fabric samples, color standards, and technical specifications for easy reference and historical analysis.
