Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Set up, operate, and meticulously tend to textile machinery, such as industrial looms, knitting machines, spinning frames, or tufting machines, according to production orders and specifications.
  • Constantly monitor machine operations, gauges, and control panels to detect any malfunctions, such as yarn breaks, needle defects, or improper weaving, and take immediate corrective action.
  • Skillfully thread yarn, thread, and fabric through machine guides, needles, and rollers, ensuring proper alignment and tension to prevent defects and ensure consistent quality.
  • Load and unload large rolls of fabric, bobbins of yarn, or other raw materials onto machinery, often requiring the use of material handling equipment like pallet jacks or hoists.
  • Conduct regular, in-process quality inspections on textiles to identify flaws, defects, or deviations from color, texture, and dimension standards, flagging non-conforming products.
  • Adjust machine settings, including speed, tension, stitch patterns, and temperature, to meet the specific requirements of different fabric types and production runs.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning machine surfaces, oiling moving parts, and replacing dull needles or blades to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Accurately weigh, measure, and cut finished textile materials according to specific order requirements, ensuring precise dimensions and minimizing waste.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate production records, logs, and reports, documenting output volume, machine downtime, material usage, and any quality issues encountered during a shift.
  • Follow complex work orders, technical specifications, and pattern instructions to ensure the final product matches design and client requirements perfectly.
  • Manage the supply of materials to the production line, ensuring a continuous flow of raw inputs to prevent costly interruptions and downtime.
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and operational problems, making necessary adjustments or promptly reporting complex faults to maintenance technicians and supervisors.
  • Handle and transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods throughout the production facility in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure the final product is correctly doffed (removed from the machine), inspected, and prepared for the next stage of the manufacturing process, such as dyeing, finishing, or shipping.

Secondary Functions

  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute suggestions for process improvements related to safety, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection.
  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new team members, demonstrating proper machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with quality control personnel and supervisors to analyze the root cause of defects and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts and reporting discrepancies in raw material stock levels.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring floors are free of debris and tools are stored in their designated places.

  • Machine Operation: Proficiency in operating specific textile machinery (e.g., shuttleless looms, circular knitting machines, carding machines, dye jets).
  • Quality Control Inspection: Ability to visually and physically inspect fabric for a wide range of defects, such as slubs, snags, holes, and color inconsistencies.
  • Basic Mechanics & Maintenance: Competence in performing routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments to maintain equipment health.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0 - 5+ years. On-the-job training is a standard and significant component of skill development in this role.

Preferred: 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, production, or assembly line environment, preferably within the textile, apparel, or similar industry. Experience with specific machinery (e.g., weaving, knitting) is highly advantageous.
